For some odd reason I was able to view the actual default APN setting after loading a few different roms and then reverting back to the backed up stock rom. I'm not sure how this happened. All I know is that via stock the option to view the settings was blocked. So I took a screen shot and saved it. The only thing that I'll note is that you need to modify the APN type line. For some reason if you input the settings as is it will not function. It took me some time to figure this out. I used the default, internet, mms, supl settings... Works Great...
I don't agree to this theory. ...
You can see apn settings. ....only you can't change anything. ...I have stock rom without anything on them .....

Hope someone is out there and quick..... Gotta send in my phone to straight talk for replacement. I undertand post 1 page 1. I want to go back to stock out of the box... recovery, firmware and the modem (why not).

Do I or dont I have to use ODIN?
Also when do i flash the stock modem?
Is ODIN flashable firmware back to out of the box stock? Recovery and all? If so then I guess that answers everything!

You can flash the modem first (I can't remember if it was included).

Yes your phone will be completely stock. Recovery and all.

Back to stock 2.3.6 Ginerbread and stock modem but Stock 3e Recovery does not work? I downloaded it 3 different times and tried installing it 3 times and each time CWM Recovery says this:

Finding update package...
Opening update package...
E:Cant open /sdcard/SGH-S959G STOCK 3e RECOVERY.zip
(bad)
Installation Aborted

Any ideas? Help? Am I doing something wrong? Quite possibly but for once I dont think so..lol

So use ODIN !!!! Damm it! Can I still use ODIN even now after I got the factory modem and firmware (2.3.6 GB) installed now currently? (Still have CWM Recovery) I wouldnt see a reason why not... just asking.

EDIT: I went to use ODIN and the file you are told to download for use in ODIN is corrupted as well! I went to extract the file with winrar (cause ODIN doesnt recognize RAR files), WinRar said the file is corrupt. Did it twice, download and extract...corrupt.

Am I now stuck with CWM?
Also... I am on Gingerbread again... I cant enter the stock APN... no option to enter a new APN?

Nowhere in the instructions does it say to extract anything. You have to follow the instructions.

I removed the stock recovery zip. You're the second person to have an issue with it

I understand nowhere in the instructions does it say to extract it. But ODIN doesnt recognize it as a .RAR file. so thats why I tried to extract it.

I am uploading a new one now. Hot off the presses, and I just tested it.

Also you should probably format your preload before flashing back to stock. You could use my ROM wipe script in CWM then power off, boot into download mode and then flash the Odin package. That way nothing is left behind.

To many quotes to bother but.... mrcook.... THANK YOU! You are the man for sure.

My only regret is that I didnt have a chance to go and play around with it. I was in that much of a hurry. But I used your new tar.md5 file through ODIN and voila. Everything booted up like a champ and I left it go from there. I sent it back with the google license screen on as soon as you hit power.

So they said about 3-5 days after they receive it I should have my new one. So I am using an LG Optimus Q Slider til then. God this thing is ancient! Any root for this thing? lol

I added a new version of the CWM flashable Stock 3e Recovery to the OP. This one works.

What is everyone's choice for ROM with this device? I was originally using cyanogen (with nova launcher prime) , and lied it but h just got bored with it, and now I'm using PAC (with nova prime) but it's VERY glitchy and kills my battery life. I'm looking for something new ASAP, if no one has good recommendations I might just go back to cyanogen =/
