Congrats mrcook! I cant thank you enough! You (and razen_kain) have brought from total noob to, well... noob, but a decent noob! But I know what I am doing these days for the most part. I cant thank you enough. You deserve the recognition. Thanks Alot!

What is everyone's choice for ROM with this device? I was originally using cyanogen (with nova launcher prime) , and lied it but h just got bored with it, and now I'm using PAC (with nova prime) but it's VERY glitchy and kills my battery life. I'm looking for something new ASAP, if no one has good recommendations I might just go back to cyanogen =/

I would definitely try mrcooks ROM as stated below by razen_kain. I also would try out Shostock3. You will not be disappointed with either. mrcook's installation package may be worth it on its own! I also use apex launcher pro.

Try Mr cooks rom

Samsung based. Great battery. Beautiful. NFC, Wi-Fi tether, aroma installer,...
I know there's more i just can't remember it all atm
I use apex launcher pro

So I got my phone back. Straight Talk sent me a refurbished S2. I guess thats fine. It didnt have a scratch on it so thats a major plus! AND the camera works! So after a couple hours of getting it rooted and back on Jelly Bean, reinstalling all my apps etc etc.... I noticed this.... I installed Shostock3 with the Jeboo kernal (included in ROM), and it had 826MB RAM. After I installed AJK 4.9ms, it only has 784MB RAM. Can someone tell me why? I am not trying to insult AJ at all. Just curous as to the differences if its a quick and easy explanation. I probably will stick with AJK regardless anyway. Battery life has always been awesome with his kernels.

PS: In case anyone wonders in the future... I sent my broke phone out Wednesday morning, had the new phone in hand Tuesday. 7 days aint to bad IMO with Straight Talk's crappy deal of send yours first, then we'll send your new one.

Idk about that ram issue. I assume it's because of cortex brain... Ask over in the AJK q&a thread. I'm sure AJ will be happy to tell you.

Maybe it's something to do with Sammy roms and 4.9. I'm using 4.9 on a 9100 AOSP rom (ThinkingBridge) and I have 804mb of ram available. Had the same when I was running Slim. Haven't been on a Samsung rom in a while, but I would start by looking at that possibility first.

Shostock is more debloated ....that is why is memory difference. ...use greenify and you will have infinite memory

I think he did not switch rom. Only the kernel. From jeebo's kernel to AJK. Both on SHOstock3. Switching between the two kernels changes the ram. Still on the same rom.

You will not be disappointed with either. mrcook's installation package may be worth it on its own! mrcooks ROM does have the wifi tether that Shostock3 does not have (if that matters to you. If you are on Straight Talk, that might blow up your 2GB/month data limit). I also use apex launcher pro.
Firstly... Congrats to Mr-Cook on RC.

But saying SHOstock3 doesn't have Wi-Fi tethering is false. I used it all the time when I was still using that phone daily.

Yes my apologies. I just saw that it did the other day after I installed it on my new S2. Sorry for the inaccurate response. (I edited my original post)

StraightTalk S959G Playing mp3 problems

I have a serious problem with my phone. when i load mp3 files and try to play them. The song will start out playing fine BUT then at any giving time during the beginning, middle, or near the end of the file it will CHANGE the song and play something else. Has anyone had this problem? No matter what i try and do to fix ,, these music files have a life of there own. At first though was that the mp3 files were corrupted but that is not the problem because all the songs play find on my windows media player AND iTunes. BUT... if drag the mp3 files back from the phone to my computers THEN those same files play like they do on the phone so they are useless.

I have reformatted my sd card, i factory reset my phone, i changed mp3 files and folders. i changed to different mp3 players instead of the stock one that comes on the phone. None of the above helped at all.

any suggestions ?

i have tried moving the mp3 files back to a computer both mac and pc the files play bad like the phone BUT the original files on my computers play just fine. They somehow are corrupted from being on the phone. I also tried on iTunes converting some mp3s to AAC and load them on the phone. Nearly the same problem but with AAC the songs would have quite spots with no audio instead of playing audio from other mp3s .

I sent my phone back to Straight Talk and they replaced it with a refurbished one. NO CHARGE ... they replaced it completely FREE.Its seems like new not scratched up or any other external wear. AND... it works Great now Playing Music !!. Its the same model with the same firmware.. No one from the repair center let me know what the issue was as they probably just chucked the non working phone. Thanks for the Help !! Straight Talk handled my claim pretty good . They did lose my returned phone for 3 days and i had to wait a bit longer for the new one to arrive but again they completely replaced it FREE. To me that deserves some serious respect for a phone company.... I know Verizon or ATT would say Go F yourself. Give us your CC and we'll fix it .

That is due to the differences in how each kernel (or even different versions of the same kernel) allocates memory internally. For example which MALI drivers are in place, and how much memory is allocated for the video buffer.
