dont plug into computer intill after it tells you to hit the voulume up button and u do it.
No, it won't boot into debug... vol dwn + power, shows GSII screnn, google screen, loading animation (colored circles), then back to black.

Going to take a ten minute break to clean my car battery terminals... something I actually know how to do >.<

Pull the battery for about a minute and put back in. Sounds like it's not powering down. It *should* go into download mode

Ok, so Odin runs again... trying to load the PhilZ CWM via Odin, it won't recognize it as it's a .zip archive rather than .tar, .md5, etc.

In the meantime, I've got Gingerbread back again... Having never touched KitKat, if Windows could evolve at the rate Android has, my laptop would be cooking my dinner & detailing my car...

No. Look back in the op. You have to use a .tar.md5 file for Odin. There should be one for Philz or AJK not sure which but zip files don't flash with Odin. ONLY in recovery do zips flash

Appears to have worked! Running the Cooked rom just fine. Time will tell, but things seem to be functional... Thanks so much for your help, razen_kain, couldn't have figured it out without you... after about 6 hours devoted to this, I'm going to treat myself to a Lazy Plantation Owner (5 mg Valium, double bourbon, rocking chair on the porch) and download my apps ;)

I'm stoked for a stable KitKat release...

Thanks again,

Ok, so. Got the ROM working, only thing (so far) that isn't happy is the microphone... I saw some stuff about some kernels not working with the mic, or similar, any advice?

And, since, I've got you, how would I go about swapping to CM or KitKat from here? Definately not a project for today, but something I'll probably want to do in the future...

Thanks for your help!

link for I777UCMD8_modem has problems

I tried to download the latest modem and get code that my antivirus says is bad stuff. then trying another link (after waiting for about 15 seconds) I get the iLivid downloader but no modem code.

Please advise what to do.

Thanks,

the problem is the link...

Thanks for trying to explain, but I've downloaded other modems and kernels before, and have cm 10.1.3 running on my Galaxy S2 already. The problem is that the link for this latest modem points me to a site that seems to be either downloading a virus (according to Norton AV), OR the iLivid torrent program but NO link to the actual modem code (which appears to be quite small).

Hmmm the microphone should not be an issue. Exactly what kind mic troubles are you having?

As for upgrading to kitkat just read up on it and keep up with the threads you're interested in. When you're ready to make the jump just drop us a line in here and I or someone else can help you if you need it. Is really pretty easy.

Thanks for the quick response. I was downloading from a PC. Will try again tomorrow.
Where are you downloading from? The links in this thread? If so, i assure you they are virus free. Mr-cook doesn't upload viruses to Dev host.

Also if you let someone know what modem you want, I'm sure someone can post a dropbox link for ya.

... does anyone else use antivirus software on their phone? If you're rooted, what's the point?

Do you mean aocp 7? That's what I'm using. If so, download the gapps from the op in their thread. Idk if it matters or not, and it probably don't, but why risk it I say.

I777UCMD8_modem.zip

It's not a problem with the modem itself, it's the "download helpers" that are being sent.

The modem is the latest one on the op page.
