Had the phone (and Sho's killer ROM) for a couple of years with ATT. About 2 months ago switched to ST. Like the price. But my download speed is really slow. Whether I am on Long Island or in the city - I will get 4 bars but it takes way too long.

Download speeds last night near an open Central Park at 9:30pm - like 222kbps.
Long Island this morning 1.2 mbps.

My setup is in my signature. Here is the question:

Assuming the network is delivering higher speeds. How much impact does the SIM Card have - or is it just the radio in my dear S2?
Im with s.t. and get 2-3 bars at home with 1-3 mbs down and 35-1 mbs up, but my house is down a hill, 2 min up the hill i get full bars with 5-8 mbs down and 2-3 up. I get good s.t. service here in VA, one thing i recomend doing is going into your service menu *#9900# and disable Fast Dormacy, is will give you quicker service, keeps your signal from cutting off 6 seconds after the last action you made, turning it off gives you 30 seconds between actions and makes streaming alot better and faster.

I tried the #9900#. I get a dialog box:

Connection Problem or invalid MMI Code ???

U forgot the * infront of *#9900# and a bunch of options will pop up look down the list and you will see Fast Dormancy, its ussaly Enabled by default, disable that crap! And depending on how much data you have used s.t. just changed the unlimted plan to 3 Gb of high speed data a month, if you use more then that you get throttled down.

Thanks. I did disable it and it seems to be a bit faster.
N.p. and to answer your question about the sim card, the sim card has nothing to do with the speed of your data, all of that is up to your phones internal radio and modem, the sim card just tells the network that your service is active and this is my number, thats why you can switch your simcard into any phone that supports it and it will work, but if you have 4g on your gs2, placing it in a older phone thats made for 3g will still only give you 3g, but if you took a sim card from a 3g phone and placed it into a 4g phone you most likely wont have any data on that phone at all, only calls and text. And always remember service quality is always fluctuating depending on the weather, usage, signal, and maintenance; so if your only getting 1mbps down today while at home, tomorrow you could be getting 3mbps at home depending on all circumstances.

Quick question regarding new flash of cooked ROM v2.2

I apologize about asking such a simple question, but my SGH-i777 recently died. Fortunately, I have obtained a new straight talk Galaxy S2, and I would like to flash the cooked v2.2 ROM. I have read through a ton of posts suggesting that the kernel should be flashed first before flashing previous versions of this ROM. Is this suggestion still valid for v2.2, or has this potential issue been addressed in the most recent version?

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

First, what ROM/kernel and recovery are you running now?

Right now, I am running stock everything. My plan was to first ODIN flash PhilZ CWM v6.0.2.7 as per the instructions. Then I was planning on flashing the Cooked v2.2 ROM, but I am unsure if I should flash the kernel first.

Thank you @razen_kain for your help. I'm glad you chose to respond to my post as it is very clear, from your previous posts, that you know your stuff.

That'll do it. Make a backup of your stock setup then just flash cooked. Be sure and select update base, kernel, and modem when prompted during the aroma install process. It's all pretty straightforward. The aroma installer will take care of everything. Nothing else you need to flash

Thank you! That is what I suspected, but it's always nice to anticipate and address any potential issues before they arise.

@mr-cook, have the twrp recoveries been removed from the op or am i just looking in the wrong place?
Well I may have forgotten to add them to the op. They are buried in the thread. I will try to find them and get them added this week.

Edit: I found it. It's in the op now.

Well guys. I dropped my ST GSII today and busted the screen. Is it worth it to try and replace the screen or should I just let it go? If its the latter does anyone need it for parts?

I'd at least give it a shot. If you don't or mess it up I could maybe use the parts. The glass is only like 10 bucks but it's tricky to separate it without trashing the LCD

If I was helpful please hit the THANKS button
