Jumping in

I am beginning to read this thread from the beginning but it is very long with
much outdated data. If someone could recommend a page somewhere in
the middle for me to start reading I would appreciate it.

I hope you all don't mind me going ahead and asking questions anyway.

I am following a video about upgrading my SGHS959G. I came to the place
where the video says to download and install CWM RECOVERY from

HTTP D-H dot ST/LD6 (or possibly a G)

But the file is no longer available at this location.

Where do I get it or what do I replace it with?

And what a good ROM image to install? I have the latest and final CM
downloaded but it is a ZIP file and this video procedure uses ODIN and
I read that ODIN doesn't support ZIP files.

Thank you

Forget some silly video! There is nothing referring to a video here.

Step 1-Go to page 1 post 1 of this thread and start reading from the top. If you make it to the bottom of the post without figuring it out see step 2.

Step 2- Repeat Step 1.

Seriously everything you need is in the op. Nowhere else.

Mr Cook is correct. It is all in the op. Everything between here and there are issues that have come and gone. If you follow op to the letter using links provided you will be fine. The recovery is where you should be careful. I believe the newest cwm is for kit kat ROMs only. Maybe someone with more knowledge then me can elaborate for us. It seems like this was posted not long ago so you might back track a couple of pages and find the answer. Whatever you do dont combine steps from any other site or links. Use only what's in op.

A grave digger will be the last person in the world to let you down in a tight spot.

I asked you people for some help.
This is what you come up with.
Really I expected something more intelligent.
It will take me a month to get past all the obsolete material.
You people could remove it yourselves and do the rest of us a favor.
Check MAJORGEEKS tomorrow. I'm going to send people there to here to read this mess.

Oh but there is a video at https :// www dot .youtube dot com watch?v equals tIF4qFZshE

and the video points directly to this thread, 1982571

It may not be "your video" but it IS a video and again it points directly to 1982571.

Rember that first impressions are very important

What is an OP?

You guys tell me to read all 350+ pages. Which of these tells about an OP. This info would help.

G7

I did a search for "OP". The XDA search function has no hits on "OP".

But I did try.

Way to insult everyone who has worked there tails off to make these things possible for everyone. If you have to ask questions like "What is OP" then you don't need to be trying this out in the first place.

Nobody told you to read every post. Just the very first one in the thread. And it's as straight forward and simple as it can be. If you can't get it, then you shouldn't be trying to root or do anything but use your phone the way it is.

Seriously, get mad and bash all you want, but nobody who actually knows what's going on is going to feel sorry for you or help you from here on out. Nobody is going anywhere because you get pissy and don't do your research.

So carry on, but please, do it somewhere else.

That was as easy as it gets. You wanted an answer and got it. Read the first post on the first page (The OP which means original post). If you get to the bottom and don't get it, reread it. What is so hard about that? You received the help you needed, but then proceeded to throw a fit.

People here search, search, Google, then search more to learn what they need to before posting questions. Had you read the thread the video linked you to (I'm pretty sure I followed the same one when I had the 959G) then you would be set.

Forget some silly video! There is nothing referring to a video here.

See the post where I provide the link to the video.

Step 1 Go to page 1 post 1 of this thread and start reading from the top.

(Reading what? Forum posts most likely. But WHAT is really unspecified.)

If you make it to the bottom of the post without figuring it out see step 2.

(All the way to page 371?)
(Possibly you mean only to the end of the very first post. This would make a major difference.)

Step 2- Repeat Step 1.

Suggested rewrite for clarity:

The very first post in this thread is most lilely referred to as "OP"
throughout the remainder of the thread. What "OP" means is
currently not clear.

The very first post contains the entire instruction set for upgrading
the SGHS959G.

The instructions in the very first post are split into seperate (hidden)
sections for clearity. Unhide each section when you want to read it.

There are either 15 -or- 21 sections that comprise the instruction set.
This uncertainty is due to whether the I777 instructions were intended
to be part of the SGHS959G instructions or were copied to this location
in error. This is not clear at least at first.

The following statement appears to be intended as more than a legal disclamer:
It is possibly intended as some type of defination statement as well but this
could be interpeted either way.

CONSIDER THIS THE ONLY VALID POST IN THIS THREAD - EVERYTHING AFTER THIS POST
COULD BE INCORRECT - If your using the information on this page please remember
to HIT THE THANKS BUTTON.

THIS IS ONLY FOR THE STRAIGHT TALK S2 MODEL# SGH-S959G......
NOT COMPATIBLE WITH ANY OTHER PHONE.

How correct is my above attempted rewrite?

=====

As for OP, I asked in several places, and the fact is that not many
people have heard the term used this way.

We both appear to have seen the same video. The video points to this
(1982571) thread. When I got to the place where the video said to go
to this link to download LDG aND i GOT A 404 error, I came straight
here for help. A search revealed several different versions of LDG
and I didn't want to mess up by using the wrong version. Due to the
404 error continuing with the video without coming here for clarification,
first, that I think would have been the error. If anyone reads my first
post there was a straightforward question awaiting a simple answer.

See my above post about ambiguity and clarity.

It was then denied that a video existed, but we both have seen it.
Then things really went downhill.

If someone had said that the very first post (someone you have finally
said what OP means) was better than the video than I would have said
Thank You and I would have re-started there.

You know I have been thinking, are some of the posts here from people
where English is not a first language.

Yo @mr-cook, request to add a line to the OP stating if you can't follow SIMPLE instructions and read thoroughly please just move along. Good grief. This thread literally gets more people being rude about issues they cause themselves than all the other I've seen. Crazy considering this is one of the most helpful threads I've ran into on the ENTIRE forum

before I got my phone rooted and running with kitkat, I read this whole thread. If something was unclear to me in the OP, I found the answer later on. I think thats called research. I did a lot of that so I wouldn't brick it.

I owe Mr cook and rogerb11 a whole lot more gratitude than I can express on this forum. Their builds have been awesome to have on my phone.

I also owe the rest of the forum members thanks also for running into problems and other members helping fix the issues, I've learned a lot, and I'm still learning.

Stop looking for the "easy fix". Do the research. If you miss a step or misunderstand a step, you could render your phone useless.

I second that amen. It's called learning and earning it.

Glossary
OP = opening post. Page 1 post 1.
In this case mr-cook does an
excellent job of updating it with
the latest files and information.
ROM = read only memory.
This is the part of the phone
that contains the recovery, the
kernel and the operating
system.
Odin = a PC based program used to
flash (install) software to your
ROM.
Recovery = a low level program used
to back up your phone, install
new software and/or format
(erase/wipe) your phone.
Kernel = the kernel is the base
interface between the hardware
and the software. The kernel
you use must be compatible
with your phone, your recovery
and your operating system.
Operating system = whichever
version of Android you are using
or plan to you use.
Gapps = the Google app files. Use
the version that matches your
operating system.

Now no one can say they don't know what OP means.
I don't see how mr-cook could have been any plainer.

So last night before I went to bed I put my 959 battery on external charge. Got up this morning put in phone and it booted up. This is after it spent more then 20 min in pool in my pocket. When it happened I asked my buddy if he had a food dehydrator I got the battery out and put the phone in for about 30 min. If I had waited to try charging battery I would not have bought new phone. Moral of the story is if you drown your phone like I did get it in a dehydrator and there is a good chance of recovery. I have tried rice and other fixes on my kids phones with zero success. I had been told this would work but now I know for certain it is possible.
