Straight Talk SGS2- SGH-S959G

So last night before I went to bed I put my 959 battery on external charge. Got up this morning put in phone and it booted up. This is after it spent more then 20 min in pool in my pocket. When it happened I asked my buddy if he had a food dehydrator I got the battery out and put the phone in for about 30 min. If I had waited to try charging battery I would not have bought new phone. Moral of the story is if you drown your phone like I did get it in a dehydrator and there is a good chance of recovery. I have tried rice and other fixes on my kids phones with zero success. I had been told this would work but now I know for certain it is possible.

Oh yee shall not get rid of me that easy lol. I'm still reading up on getting s3 to 4.4.4 and god do I miss the structue of these threads for straighttalk. Near as I can see verizon s3 roms work but the info on how to do it is everywhere not in a straightalk thread like mr cooks laid out step by step and I'm not as confident as I was with s2. I'm almost in mind to return this phone since the die hard 959 came back to life but things like gps is so much better. 20 sats compared to 7-10. If I decide to keep the s3 I will have a s2 for testing purposes and it won't matter if I muck it up for a few days so I will keep you posted. :beer:

My buddy has an s3, good phone. Better ram and GPS and CPU is a little better but other than that there's really no difference

My wife has the ST version of the S3 (I'm getting the AT&T variant). I would love to get her upgraded, but not as much as grave_digger said, going on over there as there was for the 959. Maybe we can put heads together and blow minds. Show em how it's really done.

From what I've read so far it has to be verizon or it could brick. Would be sweet though I like the new phone it just feels like I'm back on win 98 running jb

Just as a heads up for those that may not know. The GS2(s959g) from StraightTalk is no longer available. Just got off the phone with them trying to get mine back. According to them this Alcatel is the equivalent.

I have the Alcatel One Touch Sonic (A851L) from StraightTalk. No I havent yet. All i've tried so far are the on device methods ie. framaroot and Z4root. Neither worked. Trying to decide if I even want to continue with no dev support.

Don't blame you there. Same reason I git rid if an s4 awhile back that had the locked bootloader

As much as I hate to I am contemplating returning the s3 now that my s2 is alive. I'm very torn. I am growing fond of having a good GPS signal and my battery lasting all day but things came up and I need the money to.
Im not sure what I'm going to do.
On a different note I am NOT able to hit my Thanks button the action is denied and I cannot quote from a post anymore is anyone else having these problems

Edit: nevermind now it works again for some reason.

Hi guys and gals. My S2 finally bit the dust.....so sad. I bought a Moto 4G w/ LTE to replace it and had to order a new SIM from ST (Moto G uses a Micro SIM not a Mini). It arrived today. I inserted the SIM followed the APN instructions. Then called ST to activate.

She asked me how many bars I had - I had none.
She asked me to turn it on and off - didn't help.
Told me to take battery out - had to convince her I unfortunately couldn't do that with this model.

Then she said give it 24 hrs.

Here is my question - Is the 'radio receiver' in my phone only active when the SIM card gets placed in some database?

I thought it was more like WiFi where one could 'see' the various signals but only connect with the proper password (or SIM).

Have you guys had to wait before to get the bars/activation established????

I've waited up to an hour before but no longer. No service = no bars. My s2 has an empty triangle right now.
