I tried the code on this post (root) and it put out a .pit file. Use pit magic and compare it to mr-cooks post. I've got to get some sleep or I would try it. On call for 48 hour starting saturday 8 am. Best of luck.

Take a look at the Heimdall README. You have to go into the Drivers folder and run zadig.exe to install the libusb driver (it's supposed to replace Samsung USB Composite Device - which was actually called Gadget Serial for me when the phone was in Download mode). I installed the driver and then it was actually pretty easy to download the PIT file from the phone. I've attached the stock PIT binary that I downloaded from my phone for you.

Thank you I was playing with that all night and couldn't get it to recognize my device it recognized it but it wouldn't print or download the pit file I went through the driver thing was getting ready to start on it again this morning but I guess I don't have since you got the pit file thank you very much.

Don't give up its not that hard if you're around Monday I can help you personally but I've been on my phone and computer for the last two days and I'm in trouble if I don't get off of here and go to the movies right now

Got that project done phone is a lot more snappy and happy with all the extra room
@mrcook the Odin original stock rom download isn't working your link takes you to the download site but I don't think that download site has the file anymore I only have the heimdall version and couldn't get heimdall to work for some reason. Luckily for the way I did this you don't even have to go back to stock

increase space for bigger roms and gapps

pretty easy for this phone actually

1. back up everything on internal storage to external or computer it will be erased.
2. back up rom, data, effs and everything in twrp 2.7.1.0 back up to external sd
3. make sure you have odin installed on computer can get in the op (opening post of this thread)
4. you will also need this -I777UCMD8- I777UCMD8_modem.zip. in the op too under modems.
put that on your external sd
5. also have SGH-s959G_TWRP-v2.7.1.0.tar availabe on computer
6. have my new pit file (attached to this post) on computer unzip it had to zip for xda

the rest of these instructions are going to be good but not greatly detailed on purpose if you don't understand them don't try this.
put phone into download mode attach to computer open odin select pit and then choose my new pit file hit start, after it finishes restart phone in download mode conect to odin and select PDA choose SGH-s959G_TWRP-v2.7.1.0.tar phone should restart in recovery. Wipe data system caches internal sd you may get errors here it ok. restore your backup of your rom and data and everything flash I777UCMD8- I777UCMD8_modem.zip restart phone.

I had the same problem. Later cwm versions are only compatible with kit kat roms and will not install unless you have kit kat. Use the twrp.zip from the OP. Install it in recovery and reboot into recovery. That worked for me.

sgh s959g boot loop And adb

Hi,
I have been using this site as a point of reference for trying to fix an issue with my sgh s959g. I understand this particular model is different than the others in the line so I figured it would be best to check here on a few things before I continued. The phone simply went into a boot loop on the logo screen and I am one of those regretful fools that wishes he took the time to get the pictures off the phone from June. If this topic has been covered I apologize and would appreciate a link to the solution. OK so here it is. I believe that if I root the phone then I should be able to use the pull command from adb to get the photos and videos to my windows desktop. I have used ODIN to flash the CWM and got a green pass even though the process was tediously slow for some reason. The thing is now that I am not too sure of a couple of things that some clarity would be appreciated. I see a good deal of information on the web about this problem but nothing I have stumbled across for this specific model.
1. Is there an adb that is specific to this model phone or is it generic across the platform.
2. I do not know if usb debugging is enabled or not on the phone.
3. I have not been able to get into recovery mode. I am hoping this is an issue with me messing up the steps involved.
4. If I am lucky enough to get to the point where I have adb access to the phone can I pull the entire folder or 1 file at a time.
I really do not care if the phone makes it or not but getting my wife's memories back would be worth it enough for me.
Thanks in advance for any insight

Not sure why you can't get into recovery mode but if you can't I would just recommend for you to use Odin to reinstall factory firmware from the op. This won't erase your pictures on SD card. I've done it more than once without losing anything.

Is the button combo for recovery not working?

Unless this is wrong, I was told to get into recovery mode on this phone I had to hold down power, vol+, and vol- at the same time then plug in the USB, wait for the splash screen then release the power button only. When I do this I end up in ODIN. As far as trying to reinstall the factory firmware I like the sound of that idea if it does not delete that data. So is it as simple as using SGH-S959G_STOCK_ROM.zip in the PDA section of ODIN again? Thanks for taking the time to look at this for me, I do appreciate it.

Recovery should be Power and Vol+ and Volume- until the Samsung logo, then let go of power and continue to hold the other two. That should get you into recovery.

Download mode would be Power and Vol- (I think) while plugging in USB.

But download mode is what you will want to use to Odin back to stock. As long as you put the tar in the right slot and make sure the correct boxes are checked, it's a breeze.

Correct button combo, just don't plug in the cord. That's why it keeps going into download mode.

As stated by others, yes the stock_sgh-s959g.tar. not 100% on the file name, it's in the op just be sure it is a .tar file. Follow the Odin instructions in the op for installing recovery but instead of selecting a recovery file you'll be using the one I just mentioned. After this your phone will be like it was straight outta the box except all your pictures will be there

OK I used ODIN to flash the phone stock again but it is still stuck in the loop. I also can not get the phone into recovery mode, only ODIN mode is accessible. When flashing the phone it took a few attempts before I got a pass. I am wondering what is causing the loop and how to access the files, the absence of recovery mode is a bit odd also. During one of the failed instal attempts the phone did prompt me to use recovery mode but the phone still went into ODIN.
