I've been following this thread for about 2 months now and I just wanted to thank all of you guys who have worked so hard to root this phone.:good:
I've managed to root my device but whenever i flash to another rom(CM 10 nightly or SHOstock3) I lose service/data. The only way I get service/data back is if i go back to the stock(thanks for the file mr. cook). Does anybody have any idea how i can get service/data when im running other roms like SHOstock3? Sorry for the noob question.
To get data/service you need to remove all apn's that are listed. Make a new some then put

Code:
APN
Name- Straight Talk
APN- wap.tracfone
Proxy- Not set
Port- Not set
User name- Not set
Password- Not set
Server- Not set
MMSC- http://mmsc.cingular.com/
MMS proxy- mms2.tracfone.com
MMS port- 80
MCC- 310
MNC- 410
Authentication type- Not set
APN type- default,supl,mms
Taken from first post.

You need to change your apn settings back to what they were before flashing and delete all of the apn's so you only have one in the list. This will get data and mms back.

Thanks this worked perfectly dude but should i be worried that the little signal symbol keeps switching from H+ to 3G repeatedly?

I took cynnar's advice and was able to get my service back. I see that your apn settings are different from those posted by cynnar but does that make a significant difference which one i choose to use and do i have to delete all the other apns (I don't see an option to delete apns in SHOstock or either im just over looking it)?

You can try both it wont hurt anything. You may find one works better in your area better than the other. Without deleting the other APN'S your data will work but not mms picture message. I'm on CM10.1 but should be the same either way. To delete the other APN"S Tap the APN you want to delete so it will show you the settings then tap menu/ delete APN.

Oh as for switching from H+ to 3g is normal. You will find most of the time you will be on 3g. Most areas don't have wide spread 4g coverage.

Thanks I was able to delete those other APNs and everything seems to be working just fine now. Do you know the name or where I could get that task manager that came with the original stock. I grew quite fond of it and wanted it on SHOstock3 because i haven't noticed it having one as of yet.

That is a samsung app not sure it'll run on Jelly Bean. You wont find it in the play store. You should be able to find it in the CWM STOCK ROM on page one. On your computer you could download the stock rom and extract it from there. Then transfer it to your sd card and try to install it . Like I said it may not work. If your looking for a task killer I would just download something like advanced task killer from the market.

Awesome thanks dude you really helped me out with this. Unfortunately i tried to install it but my phone said i already had an app that does that same thing. After i searched a bit more and saw a video on it I found my task manager buried deep within a small unnoticeable icon in my notification bar.

Yeah it's a jellybean thing. You should also be able to long press your home key to get to it.

Thanks, just thanks Mr Cook

I am a total newbie to smart phones of any type. I avoided them because I just didn't want to pay 80-100 dollars a month for service. So when ST came out and offered this Galaxy SII for no contract, 45 dollars a month.. I decided it was time to jump in.

I was disappointed however, with it being locked to ST and disappointed with no easy way to root or upgrade the system. Mainly I'm a PC guy and love to tweak, so even not really understanding all the reasons WHY to root, I just simply WANTED to.

I followed Mr. Cooks instructions and the whole process was painless, easy and quick.

I would just like to say "Thanks!" to Mr Cook as well as everyone else who researched and worked on this phone. It never was a BAD phone, it is just much better now...

Thanks again!

Jellybam

Can anyone point me to the latest jellybam download for this phone? One place said it was version 4.1.0 which is android 4.1.2, while another said it was version 5.1.0 which is android 4.2.1, but that one will only let me download about halfway ever time and then it stops!! I am currently running slim bean with the inverted apps and love it, just want to try out all the ROMs!! Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Hi guys,

I just purchased a S2 from ST/Walmart .. Rooted and installed cm10 (4.2.1)

Just wondering, is anyone having sound quality/distortion when getting notifications or calls ???.. doesnt sound as good as it did on GB (but i was on GB for like 5 mins) so maybe i didnt notice it from my excitement to install CM lol

other than that i am loving this thing .. also to the guy above me the 3g-h+ switching back and forth is called "fast dormancy" and is intended to save battery and take load of the h+ network

and to the other guy above me... after rooting go to the google play store and download "galaxsim unlock" it costs 2.50 and unlocks the phone .. also dont try the other free apps cause they lock back up after reboot..:good:

steps to remove yellow triangle

I have the sgh-s959g from straight talk and I used the info on the first page to root my phone and worked fine. My problem is the yellow triangle. Before I rooted it the boot screen displayed samsumg galaxy sII. Now it displays samsung galaxy sII GT-I9100 with the yellow triangle. What I cant figure out is how do I get zlmage (unzipped on desktop) moved to the "root of the internal sd card" as the instructions say. How do I do this? I tried dragging and dropping it into the phone (not in a folder) and used shell terminal emulator to issue the command (# dd if=/sdcard/zImage of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p5) but it just says file not found or some such. That is after giving it SU access.

I apologize if this has already been covered but I have been looking for the answer all weekend (here and google) to no avail. This is the first time I have ever rooted so this is all brand new to me. Forums too... :/

Wow. You used the old method. Ok copy and paste the zImage to your folder with adb, connect your phone with usb, then command- adb push zImage /sdcard/zImage
Then the dd command you already have.

EDIT: Had you used the method at the top of the page, install CWM with odin then flash the root zip you wouldn't have gotten the yellow triangle or increased your flash counter. The stuff that says outdated is outdated! And only there for reference, and informational purposes (I may be rethinking this now).

No. You should still use odin to install CWM. Plus the flash counter can be reset (you would need to flash to CM10.1 I know it works with it) get the triangle away app from the link I have posted in the op. Also it's kinda cool you done it the hands on way. Also a good learning experience if you're new to this stuff.
