Ok. I will start over and do the instructions at the top. I found the triangle away app but was scared to use it due to the dire "brick" warning...

Also, Do I need to remove the external sd card when doing this? I know I saw that somewhere. I took it out the first time i did it but if its not necessary id rather not.

2 quick questions.. Is anyone having the date and time issue where it shows a different time when set to auto and auto time zone? And another but I found is if you put your camera flash 2 on and then use the back button to exit it flashes ? I'm using the app for Xda on my phone .. Sorry if this has been covered already

The time is a known bug in all 4.2 ROMs. Turn off the set by network, set the time yourself, turn the set by network back on but don't refresh it and just back out of the menu. I don't know anything about the camera (I haven't been on CM in a couple weeks). Have you checked the CM thread?

I've never removed my sdcard.

You're already rooted, so just follow the instructions to flash CWM using odin. Then make a backup with CWM.

Triangle away I think only works on ICS and newer, but I can confirm it will reset your flash counter while on CM10.1.

No I haven't done that much research yet (currently on a long road trip and flashed while I was at a WiFi spot) but thank you very much for your quick response and thank you for letting me about that forum

Bare with me as Im still a little confused as to how all this works. On page 1, top instructions, I downloaded s959g_root and CWMrecovery.tar

Do i need to follow instructions under the -ODIN instruction- or -CWM zip flashing- ...or both? and,

1) if i need to do CWMzip flashing, do i just drag the s595g_root.zip into the external sd and drop it there to save it to the root of the external sd?

2) under the odin instructions, after clicking PDA i select the .tar file?

You're already rooted so disregard the root zip.

Yes select the .tar file in pda slot. Make sure you follow the odin instructions.

CWM flashed successful! TYVM! :D:D:D

2 questions:
1) I have no idea how to make a backup...?
2) you said triangle awy will reset flash counter while on CM10.1. Is CM10.1 on my phone now that CWM has been flashed? or is CM10.1 a ROM i need to flash first?

OK, i found the answer to #2. sorry... I guess I just need to know how to make the backup

Backup with CWM- with phone off hold volume up, volume down, and power button until you boot into CWM recovery. Then go to backup/ restore and then select backup and let it do it's thing this will take a few minutes. Then go back to the main screen and reboot. Use volume buttons to scroll up and down, and power button to select. CWM makes a backup of your entire phone and stores it on your ext. Sdcard.

CyanogenMod 10.1 is a ROM. Based off of android 4.2.1 JellyBean.

No. There is no reason to change your modem. Thats just an optional thing some people change, but you can leave it as is.

Awesome. Thank you so much.
I tried it last night but the cm10.1 zip i downloaded was no good. I had to restore the backup. I downloaded another one with actual files in it and im going to try again tonight after work.
I did have another issue last night. After restoring backup my phone no longer synchronizes when i plug into usb port. I can still move files back and forth but the computer only sees the phone as e: and f: and i dont get the autorun window anymore with the option to import file and such. Any thoughts on that?

Autorun is a computer function, not your phone. I wouldn't have any idea. If you restored your backup from CWM, your phone is exactly how it was when you backed it up. You must have hit the set as default option when selecting something in the autorun menu, if I had to guess.

Thanks I was able to delete those other APNs and everything seems to be working just fine now. Do you know the name or where I could get that task manager that came with the original stock. I grew quite fond of it and wanted it on SHOstock3 because i haven't noticed it having one as of yet.
TASK MANAGER WIDGET!!!
Must be installed as a system app.
This one works on JB. I'm now using it on SHOstock3.

Got cm10.1 up and running. Works great. Just a couple of questions...
I exported all of my contacts to sd card before i installed cm but when i try to import them it says there are none. Am i doing something wrong? If i could sync my facebook contacts to my contact list that would save me an enormous amount of time if im going to have to manualy track them down and imput them.
And... That tk widget you posted, does it work with cm10 cuz i tried to install it and it wont let me.

Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda app-developers app

regarding the task killer widget. I tried downloading and installing it on my phone through the xda app. Im pretty sure thats the wrong way. Do you install it through odin...?

Had you synced your contacts with your google account? You can restore them with that. I haven't checked if that app works with CM but it has to be installed as a system app you would need to use some sort of app manager to do it.

No i never synced then to my google acct... :/ I suppose i could make a new back up with CM10.1 then restore the stock backup, sync the contacts, then restore the CM10.1 backup...?
If I do that, do i need to do a factory wipe/reset between restores? I did that the first time because i read that somewhere in the instructions for CM install
The fastest way to get from stock to CyanogenMod 10.1 Nightly.

With Odin flash this in the PDA slot - http://d-h.st/Id6 (This is the newest version of ClockWorkMod Recovery required to flash CM10.1)

Download these two zips and place them on your SD Card - CyanogenMod 10.1 Nightly and GAPPS

Boot into Recovery , first thing to do is a factory reset and wipe the cache then install the CyanogenMod zip then the GAPPS zip and finally reboot.
Would this work?

Yes you could get them back that way. You should wipe before restoring your backups because your changing between 2 different ROMs.

I use an app called Rom Customizer to install system apps. It gives you the choice to install as user or system. There are many other apps that will work also. It's just a matter of finding one in the market that works for you.
