Remove the proxy settings!!!

I just got a Samsung Galaxy S3. Just activated AT&T sim. I was having problems with data with setting from the ST website. I saw this post and removed the proxy setting. As soon as, I did that my email notification just started going off. Now the data works like a charm. That proxy has been holding the data connections. Thanks for this post!

66.209.11.32 works. Me and two friends have been having data not working. Put that in and bam, works on all 3 devices now.

GREAT !

I know this thread is old as hell, but to new users who are considering going with Straight Talk (ST), I suggest you do it. Its way cheaper than AT&T and you still get their coverage and not to mention unlimited data**. You can get the Straight Talk SIM card via their Bring Your Own Phone (BYOP) program. You can get it at their website.

**You get unlimited data as long as you don't abuse your data connection.

Oh and if you are having trouble trying to get data/mms working on your cappy with ST, here are the APN settings.

1. Download APN Back up/ restore from the Play Store

Name: ST (or whatever you want)
APN: att.mvno
Proxy: proxy.mvno.tracfone.com
Port: 80
Username: Not set
Password: Not set
Server: Not set
MMSC: http: mmsc. cingular. com
(**no spaces and no"//"**)
MMSC proxy: 66.209.11.33
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication Type: Not set
APN type: default,supl,mms
APN protocol: IPv4
Bearer: Not specified

I use this with Froyo, Gingerbread, and ICS. It works perfectly!

Cheers and let me know if this helps you out. :)

Thanks :good:

My "Captive" phone and I went from NOTHING in the way of my 3G Network to :

PING 138ms
DOWNLOAD 236kps
UPLOAD 178kps

SGH I897
2.3.5
I877UCKK4
2.6.35.7-I897UCKK4-CL614489

Thank you for the helpful information. This is my first post, and I just registered for this forum. I was stuck only using wi-fi which consumed copious amounts of battery life.

Was getting 4g and superfast download until today.. now its E !!!!!

I'm not sure what happened on straight talk, but I was getting superfast downloads... up to 3 or 4 mbps until today here in Los Angeles. Now today it switched to E and i'm getting 50 to 100 kbps down and 100 up. Thats about 20 Kilobytes/sec.. pathetic! I've played around with all the APN settings and can't figure it out. I've been getting fast downloads for about 2 months now, ever since I signed up with the BYOP program. Now i'm worried that they are throttling users.

update-----------
it was a stupid system app i had on my phone called Toggle 2g/3g... it was messing with my settings and i couldn't get out of 2g mode. I had to download root uninstaller and remove it.. once I did, rebooted, my phone went back into 4g mode. Woohoo! I love Straight Talk

Have you kept track of your data usage over the past couple months at all? Have you gotten close to or gone over 2gb? I wouldn't change any settings just yet if they were working for you in the past. Did you call ST at all to see if they were having any issues on their end?

I've been watching my data usage to make sure i don't go over 2gb... but i get offly close every month. I found it it was the Toggle 2g/3g program i had installed. I used root uninstaller to uninstall it and now i'm back to 4g on my samsung captivate glid / ics.. loving the speed and signal quality from ATT

Any chance this APN will work for Net10?

Is there any chance this APN would help my nightmare with Net10 Unlimited? I have a new unlocked ATT Galaxy SII SGH I*-777 and my data is a joke and nobody at net10 seems to be able to figure out the problem. I was pulling down 2-6 MB's in San Francisco and San Mateo for the first 5 days and then it all went downhill. My phone is not rooted and is on stock ICS 4.04.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It wouldn't hurt to try it. Just make sure you write down your current settings in case it doesn't work.

Under the APN att.mvno leave the proxy field blank, that proxy is used to restrict your data, lots of caps and packet loss. This will solve most data issues on straight talk :D

Are you sure on that? About proxy filed leaving blank cause I am throttled @ 1.2gb.

Yes, when I first started with their service a year ago I filled in the first proxy field under the APN att.mvno - I was having horrible packet loss, and was being throttled at around 300kbps so after a few days I decided to try it without the proxy (hoping it was just something to help control data usage) and I immediately went to 4Mbps. (I also sell phones and noticed that some AT&T phones used the same APN without the proxy, which gave me the incentive to try it out ASAP)

Of course if you do use alot a data, They Will throttle your line regardless, proxy or not; leading up to them eventually ending the customers service. I've been able to dance close to 2GB a month, averaging around 1.5 without getting throttled, but I did receive an automated call warning me of excessive use one month, around 2.5GB.

The Proxy is used though to help limit the amount of data that ST users consume by passing through a server that caps out at a certain threshold, dependent on how many customers are connected at any given time and how much data is being used. *Their actual method may be different, this is just an Educated example*

yep hes correct. i actually still leave the port 80 in the port field, but thats obviously superstition on my part, lol, no proxy...no port.
but i immediately noticed the difference without the tracfone proxy.

also, the 66.209.11.32 is the net10 mmsc proxy, a sister company to straight talk (according to the net10 settings page, anyhow.)
its possible someone fat-fingered the settings info on the straight talk page maybe? either way, im trying .33 and .32 to see if i get a reliable difference.

in any case, everyone should remember that these are leased lines that at&t is letting the various tracfone based companies use and i am positive that att wll lock down the ports they assign for straight talk data on their routers to the absolute LOWEsT priority possible....because they can, so of course they will.

that is most likely reason for the discrepencies in data speeds

Ok so I've tried all the settings I could find but haven't had any success at all.

This is my phone and config:
Straight Talk
AT&T Unlocked Samsung Captivate I-897
4.1.2 CyanogenMod 10.0.0-captivatemtd

I can get regular calls and texts but no data or mms

I tried the default APN that came with the ROM

I have followed Bushmaster's APN settings

as well as the settings that configured two separate APN's for data and mms

rebooting in between each config and no luck

Previously I had 2.3.5 Gingerbread installed and data worked as well as MMS

any other suggestions to fix this?

Just to be sure in settings>data usage is mobile data turned on?

I only ask because I've used nearly every jelly bean ROM out there and the default APN settings they come with work great for me.

A friend who had the same set up, said that I needed data roaming enabled.

I'm near the border of Canada on the east coast, so service isn't too great but it works.

So that's something to be aware of, if you have configured you APN settings correctly enable data roaming if your in an area where your service isn't that great.

I just tried your suggestion and found that Speedtest now seems to be blocked. I'm brand new to Straight Talk and have been very disappointed with the data speeds I'm getting. I was hoping that the above settings would improve things but not only does data speed seem unchanged but now I can't even confirm my suspicions with a speedtest. In NYC, I'm averaging about 1.0mbps which seems more like a 3G speed than a HSPA+ speed. Very disappointing.

You can't get true 4g on straight talk. Highest speed I hit was 7mb down 1mb up. It's kinda like 3g+. Of course they throttle you too.
