Will appreciate any help - my T-Mobile Streak7 (from usa) is in read only mode, and getting loads of force closr messages all the time - and as i am overseas - no dell site here in NZ to send it to.

Also my is stock, 4G/Wifi, untouch apart from that 2.2.2 froyo update a while back.

There are 2 things that look like a possible cmos battery, but I think they may be the speakers, which means there is no cmos battery? Maybe the boot sector is stored on a e-prom chip?

It would be awesome if somebody figured out how to get the Streak 7 out of read-only mode. It must be fairly simple because I sent mine to Dell and they sent the same tablet back in perfect working order. Since I had to send it in, I have a hunch that the Streak must be opened for this to be corrected.

If there is a cmos battery, are you guys thinking that temporarily disconnecting the battery would reset the read-only mode?

That would be interesting if it was just a jumper, switch etc.

Same issue here.... Died down hooked it up to charge turned it back on got a welcome screen tried to go through it and just got a bunch of force close pop ups. Doesnt go past the welcome touch here to start android screen... Called dell explained they said theyed send me a box to ship it in and have it fixed.. my worry is its rooted... so hope all goes well... also hope someone figures it out cause dell may not replace many of these like some have been having issues and cant go through dell... Im going to try and let it die out again completely...

A friend of mine also has read only problem after her power run out and rooted. Dell sent back the item unrepaired.

Yeah, that is the only thing stopping me from rooting my tablet. I rarely let anybody else use my Streak 7 because I am afraid they will not keep an eye on the battery level... and it drains fairly quick when playing games. Needless to say, all of my family members and friends think this tablet is junk because of that one issue. So, I hope a method of resetting the read-only mode is discovered sometime soon. That would make it much easier for me to promote this tablet.

Well, I'm beginning to think that we all got screwed big time when we bought our Streaks. I know, I paid Dell $200, plus I've paid T-mobile over $300 in monthly payments. Can't even get a signal in my home area. Fixin to retire, so I won't need an "on the road" device, so I'm going to tell T-mobile goodbye, and they will bill me $200 early termination fee, of course, I won't pay it, and will have to put up with all the idle threats, etc. etc. My streak will no doubt wind up in a drawer with all my other outdated gadgets.:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(

Why not just use it on WiFi at home. Set it to airplane mode and then enable the WiFi. That is how I use my 4g S7.

Because I bought a Toshiba "Thrive" while my streak was gone for repair cause of the read only problem. The Thrive blows the streak away as far as ports, etc. 10" screen, on and on.

If I wanted a 10 inch I would have gone for the thrive. I looked at them in stores and decided to stay with my S7. I use mine at home so battery life is not an issue for me. the 7 inch is preferable for me.

Well, if you are not going to use it, maybe you should sell it on the marketplace or give it to a S7 developer.

I contacted 2 dell out of warranty repair service
portatronics.com in NY
responded they are unable to repair Read Only Mode and stated They have tried it before.

The other one
http://www.sandiegopchelp.com/services/tablet-repair/dell/streak-7
They asked me to call them, which I did however when I called they were very vague whther they can repair the read only problem.
All they said send it in and we will run diagnostic which will cost $ 29-59 and quote you for the repair (replacement any part) cost + labor cost.

I thought all Dell S7 had a one year warranty? Didn't they come out in April of 2011?

Depending on how much the seller is willing to assist, I believe you can do a 'transfer of ownership' on it, it's sometimes required for getting an unlock code with dell. I'm assuming it will also transfer the warentee if it's still valid.

You might need the owner to complete the process and dell might not always allow it, but just a thought.
