Stupid question about flashing firmware

I'm sure this will seem like a really stupid question to most of you, but I haven't found a definitive answer for it. My girlfriend and I just got S5's yesterday, and the first thing I did after activating mine was root it. Unfortunately they came with 4.4.4 so towelroot wouldn't work without flashing an older firmware first, which I did. I plan on doing the same with hers. My question is, does flashing a firmware wipe everything? I couldn't tell since mine was stock to begin with. My girlfriend spent all day setting it up the way she wanted it and would be pissed if she lost everything she did. Like I said it's probably a stupid question, but I appreciate a definitive answer.

No the firmware only files will not wipe the device.

You should not lose the data when you flash only firmware. Just make sure the "Re-partition" box is not checked before you begin the flashing process. But since the phone is rooted, just use Titanium Backup to backup all the apps and data. That way if it is wiped, you can just restore everything the way it was.
Edit: You beat me to it Misterxtc Lol. Definitely not a bad thing though. It's awesome how many people do not mind helping here.
