Sudden Bootloop

I'm on last week's Xiaomi.eu, which ran just fine for a week now.
Suddenly, the phone now restarted and whenever it begins to show MIUI logo, it vibrates and reboots. If I hold the volume buttons, it starts booting TWRP, or Fastboot respecively. After few seconds it vibrates and reboots again.

What can it be? Bad memory? I had almost no free space in the device today, but I guess that shouldn't affect fastboot or recovery. Any ideas>

I've left it to discharge. Didn't wait for cooling, si.ply started again. Went to recovery with 1% and plugged the charger. Now it works. Really weird!

You should have at least 2 GB free space. I prefer to have much more.
I actually have 2.3 now when I look at it (deleted something earlier today and forgot about it). But it has nothing to do with Fastboot/TWRP problems.

I think it must have been a thermal sensor stuck.

I know it ie not a quicksilver thermometer :)
Failure is usually by a cracked internal or external bond/solder joint. So a software or firmware glitch is preferable.
The OS or firmware may have been corrupted but the hardware undamaged.
If so a factory reset or a reflash would correct it.
Unfortunately there's no way to tell at this point.
There are 10s of thousands of microscopic semiconductor junctions to fail or be defective. A few microns difference makes or breaks them.

If still returnable... I would return it. To save future time and trouble.

They are solid state, no moving parts.
More likely an apk or the firmware.
