This is the stock version of Marshmallow 6.0.1 you flash with RSD or fastboot, which can still be bootloader unlocked by Sunshine.

Since I am not having any luck with RSD, I am willing to try an alternate path to flashing the stock firmware on my Droid Turbo with win10 OS laptop, what is the preferred SW to use to do that flash since RSD Lite not working?

What version of RSD Lite are you using? See below. I know that version works on our Quark phones. Other versions may not recognize our phones. However, I don't know about Windows 10.

RSD Lite does not work on Windows 10.
I know this version works on Quark. See if it works on Windows 10.

to flash these stock firmware you need RSD Lite 6.2.4, earlier versions of RSD can't detect quark devices

OK, if that didn't work then use ADB and mfastboot.

In that post, ignore the RSD part since you said it didn't work for you. Flash using the other technique. Be sure to flash ALL the sparse chunks, not just the number in the example. The example is just an example.

It's posted in the Moto X Force forum, but the op used to own a Quark and he wrote a similar guide for us at one point. The steps are still the same, just use the Droid Turbo firmware.

So now you're able to downgrade and unlock?????
NO.

The user was on older 4.4.4 Kitkat Moforoot image from two years ago and wanted to safely update to official stock Marshmallow in order unlock bootloader with Sunshine -- but not go too far and update to the very latest Verizon firmware version which is not (yet) unlockable by Sunshine. We helped him use ADB to flash EXACTLY what he needed.

See his original request for help here:

Need some help please. Haven't messed with my Droid Turbo since MofoRoot. I am running a Verizon Turbo rooted (MoFo): version 4.4.4 ; system 21.44.12.quark : build SU2-12. I have not accepted any OTA updates.

I am interested in getting to MM 6.0.1. but the myriad threads are a bit confusing and I think the path described doesn't quite start at two years ago which is about where my droid turbo is.

Thanks very much! Vince
He was successful and now has @computerfreek274's latest debloated, tweaked stock-based Marshmallow ROM installed on his Droid Turbo phone. Yesterday, he sent me this private message, which I'm sure he won't mind me sharing:

ChazzMatt,

Thank you for your very helpful posts and patience with less savvy Root fans.

My principle reason for rooting my Droid Turbo was to have an updated OS on my Turbo that will also allow me to use Wifi Tether.

With your posts (not only those directed at my questions) I was able to complete the updates, unlock the boot-loader, gain root and get the radio update and apply the Computerfreek274_MM_1.0.7 Marshmallow 6.0.1 ROM... all looks good.

I am wondering about some of the other things to flash but for now am happy to begin getting my docs restored on my phone and apps.
Thanks very much!

He actually did it "right"-- doing research, being careful, and not taking OTAs willy-nilly. (In my opinion, if you have a locked bootloader you should NEVER take a new OTA -- which is really a partial version of firmware. If it's any good, you can flash the full firmware update later when it's released publicly. If you take an OTA with a locked bootloader and something goes wrong, you are completely out of a phone until the full firmware is released. We see posts about that all the time here. Motorola/Verizon does not have the quality control they should.)

Once you've taken an OTA with a locked bootloader, you can't go back to earlier firmware. And you can make mistakes...and flash a newer update than you meant to. (Some people not versed in all this don't see or understand the difference between 251-5 and 251-5-5. One can be unlocked via Sunshine and the other cannot, at this point in time.) So, he manually flashed exactly the firmware version he needed, then unlocked with Sunshine.

No. Sunshine does not work (yet?) on 251-5-5.

The only way to downgrade firmware is to have an unlocked bootloader.

what just pay it?

25 dol is abuse for unlock bootloader

i understand hard work from the guy who make this happen but 25 its just too much
Yea I know..for me paying 25$ for bootloader unlock is a rip-off (Sorry jcase :p) but yea
That's why I didn't unlock..anyway I am waiting for marshmallow to see if anything will happen
if Verizon still keeps their protection drm then I will simply change phone :D
I can use the 25$ + Droid Turbo on getting a better phone :p

Sorry but I gotta revive this thread cause these people make me cringe. You buy a phone without doing research beforehand of what Verizon does with its exclusives. An imminent despair strucks you as you realize you made a mistake with this purchase since all you love about android is the capabilities that unlocked BL and root give. Then you google and find xda threads with Sunshine and that being the only way to unlock. But you're still not satisfied since it's not free.
It's almost free. Actually, given how much work has been thrown into making this possible with Verizon phones, the $25 fee is worthless. And not just that, but they also took care of all the nonsense that happened when people took OTAs and later found out that Sunshine isn't compatible with their version anymore. They made it compatible with KK, L, and later with MM.
Imagine that. $25.
Just don't buy it if it's too much for you. If you had cared enough for your Droid and your Android experience with root, you wouldn't have made such a fuss over a few bucks. This just implies that you're not going to commit to your phone for a longer period of time, and that's fine with every one of us. Stay stock.

I've said much the same myself many times. You have to research before you buy.

I made a mistake one time with an AT&T Moto X phone for a friend. Ignorantly (yes, I did this ignorantly), I updated to the latest firmware FIRST before coming here to XDA to see how to root the phone. I found out if I had stayed on the older software, there was an exploit I could have used to root and to install TWRP. On newest software that exploit was blocked. I apologized to my friend and still did the best I could to customize her phone without root. But in a few months she said she was selling the phone and wanted my recommendation for yet another phone. This time I made sure to do all my research first. ;)

That was the lesson I learned the hard way. I KNEW the phone could be rooted as I had seen the custom ROMs and stuff (so I had done a little research) but I hadn't yet immersed myself in the details because it wasn't my phone.

There have been periods of time where that was the exact same situation with Sunshine, where the older firmware could be bootloader unlocked but not the newest.

The fact the Sunshine team keeps updating the software to thwart Verizon's control freak "security" updates means a whole new class of users can enjoy this phone as it flows across the used phones market all over the world. We have SEVEN Nougat ROMs available and probably soon even Oreo, thanks to the XDA Devs.

[ROMs][Quarks][List for Moto Maxx and Droid Turbo]

As far as cost, even if Sunshine costs $25 just factor that into the purchase price. Phone = $XX + $25.
