SuperOneClick did not root Froyo?

All,

I just attempted to root my SGH-i897 using v2.2 of SuperOneClick and it failed. The Captivate does not have phone service so, connecting to the laptop forces USB debugging mode automatically. All goes well after pressing the "Root" softkey but, at Step #7 WaitForDevice results in the message mount: Operation not permitted.

I am using Win7 32-bit on an ASUS 1000H w/McAfee from AT&T dsl service. McAfee immediately quarantined a file that I restored before attempting to root the SGH-i897.

Advice?

Unfortunately, I obtained an unsuccessful result using Kingo ROOT v1.4.2 as well. I used Kingo ROOT a second time to obtain the logfile and eMail to them.

Most of the successful rooting I have learned of (here & YouTube) utilize older versions, if the version is specified or visible in the video, of SuperOneClick for the Galaxy S. Meaning, version numbers less than 2.0. I am beginning to think some capability was lost in the later versions that permitted this method to work with the Galaxy S. I do not see how any aspect of my stock SGH-i897 can be associated with the failure of this method to root it particularly, since it is clearly stated to work with older versions of Android such as mine.
