I would like to thank the devs for the wonderful job they did, you'll allways have my respect and also thank you, GREAT COMMUNITY of devs/users. Maybe we'll see again on other phone's threads. A lot of users have been leaving in the past few days.
I myself plan on leaving in the next 1-3 months.

Before you leave I have just one request for all users. Please make sure that you have, at least once, donated to Quarx.

He and Epsylon3 have devoted a lot of their time and effort to this phone. To give a small donation is the least we can do for Quarx IRL.

my personal experience

Hi can't help it. I have to write about my experiences so far. I know, most of that was already reported but it bugs me so much that I have these problems (and others don't)!

installation: factory reset > sbf > factory reset > cm10 > wipe cache > restore custom apps with titanium backup > Holo Launcher HD
hardware: Bayer Defy (was SOC but board got replaced due to earpiece bug)

  1. Battery
    • Started with 100% but within 4 hours I was on 4%. Tried reboots, save cpu settings.
    • Seems to be better after recharge, but Recharge stuck on 74% for 1:30h. Had to reboot for showing 100%.
  2. Wifi
    • unstable for me, when using SAMBA Filesharing it breaks connection (interesting fact: mobile data stopped as well)
    • deleted SAMBA let's see if it helps
  3. System
    • I get a many soft reboots (no pattern found so far)
    • overall experience is not good for me and I do not understand why it is so different for people.
    • It was laggy even before restoring Titanium backups.
    • Apps need a lot of time for booting,
    • Launcher responds not well (sometimes)
  4. Restore
    • I restored all my SMS with the app SMS Backup and Restore. And it got totally scrambled (don't know if it's an app problem or the system BUT you have no Setting how you want to sort your messages.
  5. What I miss (compared to CM7):
    • Sim PIN not on flight mode/reboot necessary
    • AGPS Download
    • PDroid support
I want to mention the positive aspects as well:

  1. The Look
    • I love it.
    • The Notification Area is so great, compared to CM7
    • Weather Widget on Lock Screen
  2. System
    • Fuse intergration is great: It makes it possible to mount EncFS volumes!
    • Of course i like Google Now
  3. General
    • future proofness

If you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them. Why do I have these problems and some don't?

2.6.32.60

epsy said ,
this kernel has many fixes from recent updated kernels ,

so , for now , this is the best kernel that can be used on defy , until the 3.0 kernel comes :D
How do we get this kernel with 0911 build?
I have it but it breaks Wi-Fi and Network
I don't know what modules to include and now that my PC is broken I can't do much :(
Once Epsylon replies me of what module he was taking about I can publish it...
http://d-h.st/nXV 2.6.32-60 buggy

Note: Extremely fast. You may not be able to handle it!

I don't want a tapatalk sig!

2.6.32.60 faster in JB also >>?? can u pls check :D
Probably, coz lots of newer kernel tweaks have been back ported to it...
In all some 3 yrs worth of changes...
Look at eppy's dev thread for more info.
And he's uploaded a new ICS nightly which is supposed to be a lot more stable than the one from yesterday.

Everything has been so great... it will be a sad day when i will stop using my Defy. Making room for a Nexus 4 as soon as carriers bring it to my country. Hope to see you around Adi!

No SD, but Bootmenu access?

Extract it and then copy to /mnt/sdcard/clockworkmod/backup(s)

Not working (so far):
Radio
SD Card
Button backlight
Camera

Working (so far):
WiFi (although signal is weak)
Display
Charging via USB

Demo is extremely fast.
Faster than 4.1.2

I'm about to try this now on my MB525 on Quarx's Defy(+) 11.09 build.
However, you say that there's no SD card connectivity.
So does this mean that the SD card is also unavailable in the bootmenu?
If so, then I won't be able to restore or do anything really.

Things to note while installing / running AOSP 4.2 Defy Demo

I've just upgraded to the AOSP 4.2 Demo.

I upgraded from the 11.09 Defy (+) Quarx 2ndboot build
I'm using a Motorola Defy - MB525
I installed with a 'dirty' install (no wipe of data or cache)
The battery was at a good 85% when I went into the bootmenu.

Here's some things that you may want to know, if you're gonna do this as well:

FIRST BOOT: :fingers-crossed: :)
The first boot stopped halfway through the animation then went back to the Motorola logo.
This second boot worked, then ran the 'Android is upgrading...' dialog.
While in this dialog, there was a red LED the whole time.
The optimizations of the apps went by quite fast (faster than usual).

GENERAL:
Very, very smooth.
Very fast. Really fast. Like, amazingly fast. WAY faster than ANYTHING I've used (including the new Quarx builds)
SD card is not available, so I can't take screenshots, and the gallery autocloses because of this.
There's no option to connect to a Google Account, so Gmail, Google sync, Play Store all don't work.
Haptic feedback (vibration) works.
No sign of Messaging app whatsoever. But it would be useless anyway because the mobile network doesn't work (at least for me).
There's a red LED no matter what, even after reboots. Battery percentage doesn't affect this.
Battery drain is completely normal, maybe a little better because of no mobile network connectivity.

LOCKSCREEN:
New slider, can unlock in any direction but no shortcuts to Google Now or the camera.
The lockscreen at first is quite laggy.
Widgets work well, but can be a little laggy
Only the digital clock widget works.
Camera will activate but will then close because of error.

CAMERA:
Does not work: 'Camera error - Can't connect to the camera.' The camera then closes, so I can't even test out the UI.

NOTIFICATION CENTER:
Works.
The toggles work, as well as the two finger swipe.

WIFI
WiFi works, however the icon won't change from the 'poor' connectivity.

DAYDREAM:
Daydream works, but because of the gallery not working because of no SD, I can't test out the picture ones.

MOBILE:
I can't connect to my mobile provider, but it could be because I live in New Zealand. So I can't test out 3G.

BROWSER:
The stock Android 4.0 browser works fine. Really fast.
Chrome is surprisingly really fast, but because of no Google sync, Tab Sync won't work.

MULTITASKING:
Works really well, like REALLY well, also looks really fluid because of the new animations.

GOOGLE NOW:
Really fast!
Google Now doesn't work because it doesn't show up. When clicking on the icon in the App Drawer, it brings up the search screen instead.
Voice Search doesn't work
Phone Search works fine
Typing search works fine.

GESTURE KEYBOARD
The keyboard works fine, along with the new emoji keyboard. HOWEVER the gesture typing does not work at all, even when enabled.

CLOCK:
Widgets work fine, even on the Lockscreen
Timer works
Stopwatch works

SOUND:
I don't think sound works.
Don't have access to music, so I can't test that.

I'll update as I find out more.
Hope this helped!

UPDATE 1
BLUETOOTH:
Bluetooth doesn't work.

UPDATE 2
No Root Access

To amend your post: there is no Radio (RIL) support, so no mobile network, it is normal. Also this is pure AOSP so no Google apps of any kind, so no Google Now, no Gmail, no Sync. It's just a demo, cannot be used for anything else except to have a look how it will be in the future.

It won't be long. Soon we'll have completely stable 4.2. There aren't many changes from 4.1. I remember, just one week of the first build, 4.1 was as stable as 4.0.

Hey, guys, how many of you tried formatting the SD to ntfs? I've tried it and it slowed down my card and usb transfer speeds... exFAT was even worse. Here are the speeds I got with SD Card Tester:

ntfs write speed ~2.2MB/s
exFAT write speed ~0.9MB/s
fat32 - 4.84MB/s (the same result before testing other fs and after)

It's a 16gb class 4 card. I was almost sure that I've read comments about formatting the sd to ntfs sped the card speed up, but it seems it doesn't...

Nevermind, all's well, still :) Will test formatting /data /system /cache to ext3 and/or 4 these days, too!

Be careful, a few days after formatting to ext4 I got a crash while starting an app (Torque, to be more precise) which resulted in an endless bootloop. Tried some thingies (including data wipe in stock recovery, reflash another nightly, try to restore a nandroid, etc), but to no avail, as I had to reflash my SBF to get rid of that data corruption (E: Can't mount cache/log, and so on).
So, since I started again from SBF, root, 2ndInit and so on... why not try something new? So now I'm using White Rabbit 1.8. I like it :D.
