Well I haven't had time to checksum, but the second file uploaded faster than the first, even though it was the same size. That most likely indicates MediaFire identified the images as similar, thus there isn't much difference in boot.img files.
The delta for boot.img between 8.8 and 9.9 is less than 5MB, so yeah, even if your boot_a and boot_b are different, they are largely the same.
Will you be able to share links to those files on MediaFire?

Thanks! When I truncated this file to 100,663,296 byte, the hash matched the one in the logs:

However, the update is still trying to update boot partition blindly, and therefore looks for old hash.

Well, unfortunately I'm not sure how to get it to work then. That's the only image I have.

Rebooting to recovery with unmodified 9.9 boot partition and TWRP installed caused a bootloop and loss of all user data, so I was forced to MSM the phone. I'm now on 9.9 version.
