T-Mobile gave me a different market area code

I got the streak 7 and live in chicago. They gave me a bloomington IL number. (309) and not one of any chicago area codes. I tried to call them and change it but they said you can not change a number on a tablet. They said im stuck with it. Nobody knows who i am when i text, since nobody knows the area code. Did anybody else get an area code for a different market?
