I called them this morning...

I am already with T-mobile and called them this morning with a load of questions.

Their call centers were briefed on the Gear S just yesterday. As far as they know, the Gear S can not be pre-ordered, as it is considered an accessory. I did register to purchase, though, but did not receive a confirmation of any kind. The call centers are very new to the product and training is still ongoing, so if you reach out, take what they say with a grain of salt.

Even if they don't know all the details just yet, I would rather it is announced with a date as opposed to waiting around another week for their staff to be trained properly ;)

Agreed same thing the other carriers have said about the accessory part but last I checked we are not paying a data plan to listen to our music via bluetooth headphones which are true accessories. This gear S is a mini phone with a mini plan.

T-mobile plan to have it available Nov 9th not sure what the offical launch days are with t-mobile but it doesn't sound like they are Sunday so indeed they don't really care about this launch

I am very interested in buying this thing (two of them actually) wondering if anyone has asked or knows: Will it get it's own number or can they link it to your current number? I just don't think it'll be real useful to txt and call with a diff number than your phone. Also, anybody have any idea if this will work with note 2 (wife still using N2). Thanks!

Yes it works on Samsung galaxy S3 and up. If you have T-mobile/AT&T you can use your number from the phone. You forward your calls when you want to leave the phone at home

T-Mo Gear S

Got mine today! :)
FYI. Not many T-Mobile employees are knowledgeable on the accessory rollouts. (Prepare to know more than them)
I went into a T-mo store today to inquire about the Nov. 9th release, and see if it was possible to get it early. The rep didn't know anything about it, nor did his manager. After some insistence from me, they checked the T-Mo community & confirmed my info, but still didn't know when they would get it. All they said was "we don't get deliveries on Sundays, we'll call you Monday if we get some in". Frustrated, but not defeated, I went home did a little more research, called another T-mo location. Not only did they know what I was talking about, they had it in stock & would sell it to me today. 15 minutes later...Got it!!! :p

If at first you don't succeed... :good:

Bought it & tied it to the $5 plan. They REALLY:eek: tried to get me to go with the $15\mo. plan, almost making it seem mandatory. ($15 plan includes insurance)

Can you clarify the question asked? Do we need a previous T-Mobile plan? Online it only lets us chose $5 plan if we have already a Simply Choice line with T-Mobile. And only option is $15 a month plan if no T-Mobile. Are you saying if we go to store we can get the $5 plan even without another Simply Choice line?

I believe I answered the original question quite clearly. I'll give yours a try though...

Disclaimer:
I can only speak of my experience & the questions that I brought up\answers received.
I am already a T-Mobile account holder (Simple Choice Plan). I'd read about the $5/mo. plan online, and when the rep in the store said $15/mo., I was slightly confused. (then came the questions)
The rep seemed confused and was really pushing the $15 plan as if that was the only option, after a lot of back & forth, he admitted that I didn't have to get that plan if buying the watch outright. (I didn't have to get any plan)
They said it's like setting up another line. The watch will even has its own phone number. (more than likely works by "re-routing" calls to your "phone's" number when applicable & vice-versa)

To the best of my knowledge;

If you ARE currently a "T-Mobiler", and you buy it outright, and don't want the "standalone" mobile network features, you don't need to select a plan at all.
If you ARE currently a "T-Mobiler", and you buy it outright, and want the "standalone" mobile network features, you select the $5 plan.(what I did)
If you ARE currently a "T-Mobiler", and you choose the "payment plan" option, you must select the $15 option. (payment plan devices MUST be insured, like the JUMP program)
If you are NOT a "T-Mobiler", and you buy it outright, but want the "standalone" mobile networkfeatures of the watch (not just the "watch -> phone Bluetooth connection" option), you have to get the $15 plan.

**After purchasing the watch, you have up to 14 days to add the "protection plan" to it. ($10/mo I guess)

I can't tell you much about "non" account holder info, as I am a "T-Mobiler".

Hope that helps.
