Any international firmware will get you fingerprint. It's some sort of embargo/requirement or restriction I suppose, also only xz1c is certified for VoLTE in the States. There you have it.

As far as losing updates, how badly do you want these features? Your decision.
the fact that only xz1c has it is like the dumbest thing i've heard. What is sony thinking in their head?

You can still get updates ... just go through the manual download/mix/update process every month.
www.xpericheck.com will show you the new updates.
The process is SUPER simple, and as long as you remember to delete the "userdata" file, you won't lose any data.
whats a step by step process of getting volte and FP scanner. and then what are the steps for me to be able to update it later?

If you search back like 6 months there will be a post describing it.

But basically:
1) Download xperifirm
https://forum.xda-developers.com/cr...xperifirm-xperia-firmware-downloader-t2834142
2) Use it to download 3 firmwares.
a) US release for the dual-SIM mode.
b) other release for the touch sensor (I usually do the CE release, but others will probably work too).
c) US compact release for VoLTE.
3) Create a new directory where you copy:
All the files from "a" above.
2 files (system* and vendor*) from the non-US release (overwriting the 2 existing files) to get fingerprint working.
1 file (oem*) from the US compact release (overwriting the existing file) to get VoLTE working.
4) Delete the userdata* file (unless you want it to format the phone and lose all your data).
5) MAKE SURE YOU DID STEP 4 RIGHT!
6) Download newflasher
https://forum.xda-developers.com/cr...gress-newflasher-xperia-command-line-t3619426
7) Run newflasher and flash the phone.
If you say yes to the first prompt, it will extract drivers to use with the phone.
When the driver is installed, hold down (I think it's volume down ... otherwise try up) volume down while inserting the USB cable.
Phone will connect and the LED on it will turn green.
Run newflasher from the directory where you combined all the firmwares.
Say no to all prompts and wait for it to finish.
Unplug ... and most times you have to reset the phone to get it to continue (some volume button and power button combo).

This is from memory, so probably worth it to look through older posts.
But really, it's quite easy to do.

Just tried this out, and it worked for my completely stock unrooted XZ1 G8342.
Everything is working perfectly fine. Fingerprint scanner, VoLTE, and WiFi Calling all working!
Hopefully this perfect functionality retains throughout any future software releases from Sony

Just a side note, I did NOT delete the userdata file and instead unckecked the USERDATA checkbox in the falsh tool. My user data remained after flashing this way, but YMMV.

That's awesome. Let me know if you notice any issues with sending sms.. on my end it is sort of buggy and sms' fail to send sometimes.

So do you not download any ota updates like the upcoming 9.0 (pie) version before you flash the custom firmwares? Do you just do it right out of the box with the basic stock version?

I match firmware across the board. *.60(Sept. 2018 sec.).

Using @IgorEisberg tool, XperiFirm ~ Xperia Firmware Downloader :
I grabbed latest .60 from XZ1Compact(oem*.sin)(VoLTE)
Grabbed Central Europe1(system/vendor.sin)(Fingerprint).
I put the system/vendor.sin into the US firmware(group MMS) folder, flash using newsflasher(@munjeni) .(Newflasher (xperia command line flasher))
I flash oem*.sin by itself after it's done rebooting the firmware above(newsflash & oem.*sin- just the two inside one folder).
You could flash everything all at once if you wished. ^^
I also avoid flashing userdata*.sin by deleting it from the entire firmware folder.

see you.

Since you're running a "mixed" firmware, the OTA updates won't work any more.
(They will probably fail if you try since they check if the original files match expectations ... or they would overwrite your mixed files removing the support you added).

I just check https://xpericheck.com a few times per month (daily right now since I'm anxiously waiting for the 9.0 release) and apply same way as you just did (without wiping userdata).

so if i follow the steps you posted above earlier i should be able to still update? Im confused here. i have the h8342 US model. If i flash the FS, VOLTE, and wifi calling will i be able to update or all future updates gonna fail?

You can still manually flash the update but you will no longer receive OTA updates. I am not sure how this will work with the 9.0 update. I cannot experiment as I no longer have my XZ1 so you can experiment (or not).

Anyone get this 3-firmware-mix method to work with the Pie firmwares?
Oreo worked well with fingerprint scanner and Volte/WiFi calling, but mixing in the Customized US firmware won't even get my fingerprint working in Pie.
I have to flash an unmodified foreign firmware to get it working, still waiting for XZ1c Pie firmwares for VoLTE/WiFi calling.

Haven't tried due to XZ1c not being out yet, but that doesn't sound encouraging :(

I should mention though, my failed attempts at mixing firmwares for fingerprint/Volte were on the Pie version 47.2.A.0.306.
As of less than 24 hours ago there is a new Pie firmware on XperiCheck (47.2.A.2.33) that I have yet to test with.

FYI: Two versions of Pie have been released for certain XZ1 Compact regions (unfortunately USA is not out yet). I am currently running the Russian firmware version 47.2.A.0.306 on my G8342 on T-Mobile in USA just fine (just missing VoLTE/WiFi calling for now).

FYI: I just flashed a US/AE mixed 47.2.A.2.33 (used AE in the past - mostly because the 3 last letters in the release version are the same ... no idea if that matters much).
Fingerprint works fine.
Obviously No VoLTE.

Probably obvious, but is the dual-sim capability retained after flashing the XZ1c OEM.sin?

Another G8342 success story here.

What I did:
  • Grabbed XZ1c (Customized US) firmware for VoLTE
  • Grabbed XZ1 (Non-US) firmware for fingerprint enable
  • Made clean backup of downloaded XZ1 US firmware
  • Replaced the following in my US firmware:
    1. oem_X-FLASH-ALL-C93B.sin with matching version from Customized US XZ1c
    2. system_X-FLASH-ALL-C93B.sin with matching version from non-US XZ1
    3. vendor_X-FLASH-ALL-C93B.sin with matching version from non-US XZ1

Then flashed that with newflasher, leaving all but simlock.ta in. Works great.

Just flashed my G8342 with G8441 OEM.sin, and confirmed not working. Using *#*#4636#*#*, I can't toggle VoLTE. I'm on latest stock Pie for G8342.
