I just did the OTA update on my US 813, and so far it is working perfectly. I've connected to my 5ghz without any problem. I don't see an option to set the WiFi band, but it sees and connects to my 2.4 and 5. No crashes in the last hour...

So I decided to install this update to Nougat, even though I have been running custom ROMs for 4 months. Shouldn't be difficult, right? Holy Moly! Talk about your comedy of errors!

After doing all of the necessary backups and downloads, the installation of the stock Nougat firmware could not have gone more smoothly. After Odin finished and rebooted my tablet, I was very pleased and quite impressed. So much so that I even considered stay stock, not rooted, at least for a while. But my friends, what we have here is a dyed in the wool engineer who always wants that last iota of performance and control over his devise, be they tablets, smart phones or PCs. Needless to say, I wanted to root it and regain that higher level of control and customization that doing so allows. And here my friends is where things went totally south. I installed ahsyx's 3.1.0 TWRP and it seemed to work. Then I rebooted and attempted to flash Supersu 3.79. At first it seemed to work. But I rebooted to system checked in with Titanium backup and no root. booted to the bootloader and tried flashing another version of TWRP that worked very well for me with Lineage 14.1. I then booted to TWRP and got the nasty "E: Unable to mount '/data" error message. Seen this before so I formatted my data partition and was beginning to feel a little uneasy. So I attempted to restore my backup. Everything appeared to work so I rebooted to system. Nope, came right back to TWRP. Tried three times with the same result. Powered down. Booted back up, well hello TWRP. Okay, done now. powered off, booted to bootloader, restored the original stock image, rooted it and then was able to successfully restore my latest backup that was made right before I started this adventure. Rebooted and Walla! There's good ole Lineage. Tablet prompts me for my PIN which I carefully input and---"Wrong PIN, it tells me. "No it isn't!" I yell at it. Try again making certain I hit the right keys and "Wrong PIN," it says. Now I am getting very angry to say the least. I don't want to lose access to my backup because the next most recent one is over a month old. After doing a search on the Internet (XDA failed me) I found a forum for Lenova that tells me how to get around it by deleting certain files. I follw the procedure and reboot. SUCCESS! Back to where I started before this fiasco began.

Moral of the story - If what you have works and you are satisfied, don't change it. I am again happily using the latest LIneage ROM that does everything I want it do, and has great performance and battery life. :good::good::good::good::good:

Ok, did you follow the OP instructions in ashyx's TWRP thread? It looks to me that you skipped a few steps in your rooting process which mucked things up.

You tried to flash supersu right after flashing and rebooting into TWRP. That's wrong. You need to format data to remove encryption in TWRP first, then flash supersu and also the boot image patch (also by ashyx). This will enable root in the stock samsung nougat rom.

LineageOS is a little different as it uses its own su addon to enable root.

Yup! You are correct on all counts. I figured out where I went wrong after the fact and had already restored to Lineage. Just another case of me trying to do something tricky late at night without doing the proper research because I am in a rush.
The thing that puzzled me the most (and still does, I might add), was the PIN number snafu. It makes no sense as to why my PIN would not work and I had to remove the password file.

For those with Wifi issues (mine *seems* ok)... are you saying you can't "see" 5GHz or just cannot connect to it.. ie. download/install a Wifi analyzer app.. can you see the 5GHz networks?

I've got an Orbi which annoyingly uses the same SSID for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz, so it's hard for me to tell. Wifi analyzer seems to suggest I am connected on 5GHz (but again, I might be confused)

Weird thing is it sees the 5Ghz mac address but it recognizes it as a 2.4 though and I'm 100% its 5Ghz as my other devices are able to connect to it with no issues.

No, I just let the OTA install when it said it was available. The only problem I've had is that the calendar keeps giving a notification that calendar notifications are disabled.
LEt us know if you still see your 5Ghz after a factory reset, whenever you decide to do it.

Okay, tried it again following the procedure you describe above (and as found on ashyx's thread) and I am bootlooping TWRP again. So much for your theory. Going back to Lineage and staying there once and for all.

Which TWRP did you use? You need one which works with the Nougat stock rom.

I used the latest one from here. Not ashyx's one.

https://dl.twrp.me/gts210vewifi/

I'll post the steps I used again

- Flash stock nougat rom using Odin.
- Boot into stock rom and ensure oem unlocking is enabled in developer settings.
- Turn off tablet and go into download mode.
- Flash the twrp tar file using Odin.
- Immediately manually boot into TWRP after flashing in Odin. Instructions are in ashyx's thread.
- Go into wipe, and then format data. Type "yes" to do it.
- Reboot into TWRP again.
- Flash supersu zip and then the no verity no encrypt zip. I flashed from the external sdcard.
- Reboot
- Supersu should now appear among the apps.

Well, the only things I did differently was I used ashyx's TWRP (twrp_3.1.0-1_sm-t813_14417n.tar) and I forgot to disable auto-reboot in Odin, so it booted to the system before I booted into TWRP. I will try again following your steps exactly when I get off of work today. I understood that ashyx's TWRP worked with stock Nougat but apparently not.

Update - Did the update procedure exactly as you posted here and it works great. :good::good::good::good::good:

So this morning my Wi-Fi completely broke, can't get into the settings, toggle it on/off, even using third party apps, no more wifi, seems Bluetooth is also broke. No modifications ever, I tried resetting network settings, did nothing. Guess I have a pretty fancy paperweight. I did a factory reset after the nougat ota, not trying to do it again less than a week later.

One of the main reasons I buy third party extended warranties for all of my devices. It has saved my butt more than once. Especially with all of the customizing and flashing I do. And they don't care if your device has been unlocked and rooted.

I'm still under warranty here, less than a year old. But, I reset network connections multiple times and got it working again. The 5ghz networks still weren't showing, but a third party app allowed me to connect to one, and now settings shows them. So, everything seems smooth again.

Way to expensive. $135+ for accidental coverage.
Only if you don't buy it at the same time you purchase your device. I bought it for two phones at the time of purchase and it was only $43.99 per phone. I used this insurance on my Moto G (2014) and they refunded the purchase price of my phone less a $25.00 deductible. The phone was over 2 years old when it died. I also have a laptop that I covered with a Squaretrade policy for $49.95. The hard drive failed after a year and it was repaired no charge. All I had to pay was shipping to the service center. When I bought my Samsung tablet I added a Squaretrade policy for $49.95. All of the warranties cover the devices for two years after the original warranty is up. The $25.00 deductibles also lower the initial price.

The key is to get the extended warranty at the time of purchase. No way will it cost you $135.00. If you wait they don't know if you have already damaged the device and are trying to pull a fast one. ;)

Updato com has Nougat for UK SM-T713 BTU region.
So, I can download 7 UK version ( out for the SM-T713) , and Odin it to USA SM-T713 XAR, I won't have any issues?
What is the Difference in regions? Why not have universal? Why should I wait for XAR region:)?

IF I wish to go back to 6.0.1, Can I downgrade using Odin again?

---------- Post added at 08:28 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:21 PM ----------

I downloaded the Germany region's version, (the one linked to this thread) and it works fine. During the initial boot I had to be sure to select English (USA) as the language.

@Mr niceguy

I've been running the UK version on my US T713 for a few weeks and its perfect.
As far as I can tell CSC is the only difference.

Backup first.
Odin the BTU Tar (turn off reboot first)
Disconnect Tab, reset odin. Re-connect phone (no re-boot necessary)
Odin TWRP (turn off reboot first)
Boot to TWRP
Format data
Do the usual things and it'll be fine

Or, just wait for a little while longer. XAR typically comes out a month (give or take a few days) after BTU and that's just a few days from now.

As @pastorbob62 said, select US English during setup wizard

You can Absolutely Odin back to MM. I've done it a couple of times.

Odin the MM Tar (turn off reboot first)
Disconnect Tab, reset odin. Re-connect phone (no re-boot necessary)
Odin TWRP (turn off reboot first)
Boot to TWRP
Format Data
Wipe all but external
Restore backup and shazzam...
You'll be good
