doomlord has found a solution to root on xperia z on android 4.2.2 and i wonder if the same method applies here.the process is simple.if you have installed the 4.2.2 rom,flash via flashtool the kernel from .370,run this programm to root and then flash back the 4.2.2 kernel.if somebody could create a kernel only ftf package with the kernel of .370 rom and another one with the kernel of the latest 4.2.2 firmware i would test it and report back.

I tried this earlier on today and had no luck. When putting the earlier kernal on the tablet would just get stuck in a boot loop at the Sony logo.

:(

However on a plus side, if you downgrade and root there and ensure SuperSU is a system app as others have said, once the OTA update is applied, the root does stick :)

:(disappointed buying Sony Product again, i bought XTZ thought it will have at least the current dev which develop Xperia Z tweak cross over here as well but seem like even Sony release open source also dun seem to help at all.. @DooMLoRD why did u give up on XTZ? seem like i can only use XTZ in my bathroom only. :(
i had to dedicate the time i had on the device which i have... if i had the Tab Z it would get my dev support... i did try for the tablet give away competition but my entry was not selected :(

Doom, what I don't understand is why unlocked bootloader doesn't "automagically" gives root ? With unlocked bootloader, we can write what we want wherever we want, right ? Or am I misunderstanding something ?

For my SGP311 it is confirmed ! But SuperSU have to be a SystemApp before... very important !
I have the app and have run it before. Is there more to it to being a SystemApp. Never done this before.

I do see SuperUser.apk in /System/app

EDIT:Used /system/app mover to verify that SuperU is a system app. Looks like it just needs to be in /system/app

Congrats LeBoy ... so very jealous!! So just a silly q... when you say "Applied Sony update via OTA.." do you mean that you got the notification on your tablet itself that an OTA update was available? Or did you apply the OTA via FTF or Sony Update service program on desktop (ie. the standalone app, not PC Companion)... Thanks!

OTA = Over The Air

In step 4. I downloaded and installed the updates using Sony OTA update program: Settings > About Tablet > Software Update.
From what I see forcing the update with PC Companion would invariably wipe out Root. Be aware!!!

By the way, no need to be jealous. I'm positive Sony is rolling out 4.2.2 globally right now and it will be just a matter of days before it's available in your region as well ;)

Hi All,

I have a SPG312 with unlocked bootloader, I'm unable to do update to 4.2.2 using OTA. It will download the OTA, reboot, try to apply the update then boots up with a error message. I read unlocked bootloader cannot use OTA.

If I use Sony EMMA software to do a full update to 4.2.2, can i still use Doomloard root tool to root 4.2.2 successfully?
