Thank you for this forum! It has been very helpful for me to improve a number older tablets with fresh firmware from dedicated folks.

Now, I have an old generic tablet I am trying to save from the trash, and need help to identify it.

The brand is Neutab, specifically a Neutab X7. Amazon sold them for a while. A cheap KitKat tablet with Bluetooth.

Got this one in 2015(!) ASIN: B00RCA2OFK, listed as NeuTab® X7 7'' Quad Core Google Android 4.4 KitKat Tablet PC, Bluetooth, HD Dual Camera, 1GB RAM, 8GB ROM.

What is the right forum to ask for tips in identifying and building and installing a more modern firmware?

The device build fingerprint is alps/X7/X7:4.4.2/KOT49H/1418107401:user/test-keys

The MAC address starts off with 8c:84:01:c8 which IEEE shows as a "private" vendor.

Hardware serial number is RGIZSGDANZS47LSK

I did get Google Play on to it at one point, but now Google Play has constant "Unfortunately" messages.
