[TabZ][TWRP][PhilZ Touch][CWM] XZDualRecovery Q&A

Still getting used to the Xperia ecosystem. When I put this on my tablet, won't any rom I flash over write it anyway since roms have the recovery with them in most cases?
It will, because it has been placed inside the system partition. But you could make it a habit to flash the flashable zip right after flashing a new ROM to retain it ;)

Some custom ROM's do have recovery included... but most will have just one. It's a preference though, so it's up to you :) Just make sure the ROM Chef did specify he included a recovery, otherwise you could lose recovery all together...

Do you mean flash lockeddualrecovery-RELEASE.update.zip after I install any custom ROM?

Since this allows loading of modded ramdisks over teh stock kernel i cant imagine i would have been the first of wondering why this wasnt used with a cm ramdisk for locked bootloaders. any input on if this was tested and deemed not feasible or anything of the sort?

It was exactly what i was thinking while developing it... but I am swamped with work as it is so I didn't get to do anything with it...

The latest beta has a feature for this: you can make it boot a custom ramdisk by default or when you press the power button during a second led burn at an amber led. That's useful while debugging :)

It accepts tar, cpio and cpio.lzma archives and they can be stored wherever you want as it's location is configurable.

It does NO preparation work when booting this, leaving you up to decide what to do to make it work.

does the recovery work with 4.1.2 stock on xtz wifi-only with root and unlocked bootloader?

i tried it, but can't boot into recovery. as i used 4.2.2 stock i could flash this recovery - at this time the bootloader was locked, but after unlocking the recovery still worked.

edit
twrp works, but cwm doesn't. when i press the vol+ button after a few moments the led is green, then red. when i boot into twrp after green the led becomes purple and then twrp starts.

I had that same problem on 4.1.2 and 4.3. I tried the .70 version and CWM would be Ok but TWRP had the orientation problem. So I tried .71 and problem is the same as you described. TWRP issue is resolved and CWM no longer loads. The led goes green and then red and ROM boots normally. So I grabbed recovery files from \system\bin of a GB SGP312 flashable zip that I think had an older version (maybe the 62) copied the files to my flashable zip in /system/bin overwriting the 71 version and now both my recovery's work on my rooted 4.3 .

The bug affects some tablets and others not...

have you installed the .installer.zip or the flashable.zip for the first install? i used the installer.zip.
I'm sure I restarted the process from scratch like a billion times. I flashed back to stock with build. 370 and rooted with DoomLord's method and used Installer.zip from there. I then went into CWM and flashed my flashable zip, powered off and flashed stripped FTF.

Got them from this flashable zip here:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48904390&postcount=2&nocache=1&z=6628322564076488

SGP312: Generic GB 10.4.B.0.577 from Ibis69

In my case the .70 would load both recovery's but TWRP was in portrait mode so couldnt be used and CWM was fine. With .71, TWRP was good but CWM wouldnt load at all.

@ Crash338

i've not tested your solution because i use 4.1 and you use 4.3.

In order for me to get to 4.3 I had to flash back a stock ROM build .370 which is 4.1.2. From there, I rooted with DoomLord's method and installed recovery .70 to make CWM work (TWRP wouldnt work well). I then used the flashable zip to flash 4.3 (inside CWM) with the older DualRecovery that was included in the flashable zip. I then flashed the stripped FTF which got me to 4.3 rooted and both recovery's working.

If what you want to do is root your 4.1.2 and have DualRecovery working without upgrading to 4.3, I'm afraid you are out of luck or need to wait that Nut releases a .72 version (not sure he is working on it right now). Your tablet seems to be as stubborn as mine. Some users here on XDA were able to make both recovery's work with .71 and our tablet doesnt want to... even though it is the hardware. No clue why...

* Maybe you can swap the recovery files from your /system/bin and reboot using root explorer while you are in your rooted 4.1 ROM... that might do the trick.... Just a thought

this is for sgp312, not for sgp311. what version do you use. 312 or 311?

what do you mean? is there a different between rebooting with root explorer and "normal" reboot?
I use SGP312 so I used the ROM for SGP312. You should use the ROM for your SGP311 but your problem is with the Recovery's. Recovery's version apply to every model of tablet Z, they are not dependent on your SGPxxx. You only have .70, .71 and now 72.

As for the rebooting with root explorer ... i'm not sure what I was smoking was top quality  I just meant to reboot any way you want.

ok, it seems .72 works with 4.1.2, i can start cwm and twrp. there is only one thing i don't understand: when i want to reboot in cwm, there is a message

rom may flash stock recoervy on boot. FIX?

THIS CAN NOT BE UNDONE.
when i go to no, the tablet starts normally. what will happen when i go to yes. i've never seen this message before when using cwm.
