[TabZ][TWRP][PhilZ Touch][CWM] XZDualRecovery Q&A

Tested 2.7.22-BETA, reboot bug still there.

Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
I've requested Phil to create a Tablet Z specific version, he will create a CM 10.2 thread as soon as it becomes available...

For now, I have finally had the time to compile a TWRP specific to the Tablet Z and this should align itself in landscape.

Please download the zip attached here and copy the recovery archive inside to your /system/bin to test.

Hmm... I'll have a long hard look at why that is... Weird
Just to be sure I test it the right way, i've done this :

- upgrade to last beta from philz recovery
- reboot to android then renamed recovery.twrp.cpio.lmza to recovery.twrp.cpio.lmza.old
- copy the new recovery.twrp.cpio.lmza from your zip to /system/bin/
- change owner/group to 'root/shell' and chmod 644 ( like other recovery files)
- reboot to twrp by pressing volume down at boot

Yes sir, that's 100% correct.

@ibis69

The long hard look wasn't that hard and long... i made a stupid mistake in my build kitchen and it caused that recovery ramdisk to be the one of the yuga (Xperia Z) ...

Try this one please ;)

-EDIT-

This build is fubarred because it was built against the CM 10.2 tree, just want to know if it aligns correctly now...

Yes ,. It aligns correctly now ,. :good: :D

Will you include it in the next beta or we have to do it manually ?

I'll include a correctly working version in the next beta package line, as soon as 2.7 is released as 'RELEASE' package.

I will start a seperate package line for all supported models as 2.8 beta, which should eventually have a true tablet Z version of PhilZ Touch Recovery as well.

As soon as they (all supported models) have been released and reach the 'RELEASE' status, BETA 2.9 will become a single installation package again but it will contain all variations and assemble the correct recovery ramdisks during installation.

Big plans, but having a single unified installer and the ramdisk assembly are needed to keep the overall package size low and keeps overall maintenance and the future release plans simple ;)

I've downloaded XZ-lockeddualrecovery2.7.32-BETA.windows.zip yesterday and flashed it.

Restarted into homescreen and then back to recovery.

I've used CWM and made a backup to an external sd card.
I wanted to test if everything went ok so I booted into system, changed a few shortcuts on the home screen and booted back to CWM recovery.

From there I used the restore from external sdcard1 option and started the restore.

/boot went fine
but in the middle of restoring /system I got an error message and it stopped. WTF...

Tried it again but it only stated that it wasn't able to mount /system...
Rebooting lead only to the Sony logo and my first thought was: Oh no, please not a bricked device ;(

After a minor heartache (and a few minutes of research) I was able to shut down the device and flash a full system with Sony's update service software.

I will still try to do the same backup / restore with TWRP but I don't think I'll try CWM one more...

Any chance that you can push out a release with a fixed (orientation wise) TWRP module in the coming weeks? It would be nice if it allows us to set TWRP as the default recovery environment (so that it doesn't boot CWM by default but TWRP instead)...

XZDualRecovery already had that feature... but in 2.7.32 BETA this has been changed to a prop file to make the settings in. It's easier to use and more noob friendly ;)

I've finally cracked the CM10.2+TWRP 2.x combo issues, I'll release a TabZ version of 2.7.33 (current unannounced BETA for alpha testing purposes) soon. TWRP will have an added bonus from that version onwards, keep an eye on my development thread for that :)

Did you use PhilZ Touch or the vanilla CWM?
