Pokemon runs on Android 4.4. If you install the latest CyanogenMod custom firmware by
@luckasfb your son will be able to play Pokemon.
However, there are two bugs in this version. The 3D effect is not good enough. Front and rear cameras fail to install due to a detection failure but a workaround has been found.
Finally the Gyroscope and Microphone are fixed.
First you need to check if your phone has Root already with Root Checker Basic.

If not then run KingRoot or iRoot.
This is a XDA release of KingRoot. It is easy to uninstall, also removing a Purify app.

However, iRoot will install Chinese junk apps, easily removable.

I did not try iRoot, a warning stopped the download.
Then proceed to the next steps.

TWRP 2.8.0 custom Recovery with SElinux support in kernel

Follow the instructions for ROM instalation here:

You must install custom recovery (TWRP) and then install the ROM from recovery.
NOTE - Do not panic if you get this message "can't connect with the camera". Rear camera detection is not yet stable. The advice is to use an app (Quick Boot Plus, Reboot Manager, Power Manager [Reboot] or Link2SD) to perform a "Quick boot" or "Hot/Fast reboot" interface after the front camera detection. This brings access to a working rear camera in ROM 4.4.2 (workaround).

If your smartphone has root already
Try these Android Flash-Tools (Flashify, FlashFire or Rashr) to easily flash and backup kernel and recovery to TAKEE 1. There are plenty of videos on YouTube that show how to do it.

Thereafter, my advice is to install XDA Labs apk. It will enable you to retrieve many Google Play apps, even those that are region specific and others that are not available there.

If you want all Google apps then install Open Gapps
