Hey all.

I've managed to unsecure the new Telstra 3.1 boot.img, and have successfuly rooted. :D

For ease of rooting etc follow the instructions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049901 but use the boot files I've attached instead.

I haven't tested extensively, but I started with a stock locked Telstra Xoom, updated OTA and then followed the above steps using my unlocked boot.img

I haven't tried the modules so USE AT YOUR OWN RISK

I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY IF YOU BRICK YOUR XOOM

thanks to dsixda for the kitchen.

@ mynameisjon,
It is an unsecured boot.img that has been made from the official Telstra (MZ601) OTA update.

If you have a Telstra XOOM update using Settings > About > System Updates. Then apply this to get root.

Hey eprpicdavey,

Do you have an unsecured version of the new boot.img? They re-released the 3.1 update last weekend after resolving the FC, battery issues. I performed that stock upgrade, then used your boot.img here, but am now having the original issues. I assume this is because I need an unsecured version of the new update.

Do you have one/know where to get one, or can you point me in the direction of some instructions on how to do this myself? I do not wish to run a custom rom or kernel at all, just have root access for things like Titanium Backup Pro.

Regards,

Ulnagar

Here's how you should be able to do it.

Make sure you have a file called /system/recovery-from-boot.p.

Flash the old insecure boot.img (any working insecure boot.img) to the _recovery_ partition.

Boot to recovery and dd off the (stock) boot partition once booted.

Restart (boot normally) to restore the old recovery partition.

Unsecure the stock boot partition in the usual fashion (split the image and change ro.secure to 0, then repack).

Thanks for doing this, I was going to make an unsecured boot image for this android 3.1 version, but never got around to it.

Unsecured Boot.img

Originally I used dsixda's HTC Kitchen to unsecure the boot.img
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633246

It's really easy to use once you have a (virtual) machine set up, and almost idiot proof. I have never had any issues with the kitchen as long as you follow the instructions.

I'm planning on doing this again for the new update, but am away until september, so can't do anything until then. It's also a lot easier than manually coding.
