when you get 1.11.18, go to ROM manager and select update ROM - does nothing happen? I have it registered now with a CWM which is fine, it shows my current version (which is latest) so when I click check for udpates nothing happens (no - 'no update available' or anything like that). Just wanted to see if it was working correctly.
Same here, ROM Manager use to say 'No updates available for your ROM' or something like that but it doesn't anymore. I don't get anything either.

I just checked the Miui 'Updater' application and it works perfectly. Shows that a new version is available, 1.11.18.

Which MIUI updater are you using?

To answer your question it looks like MIUI does use EXT4. I just opened up the Miui 1.11.18 package and there is a file there called 'make_ext4fs'

:):):)
Yeah, that was my gut feel as well - man it is F A S T. Amazing how we thought stock 2.3.3 was fast, then Darky's, then newer Darky's, now MIUI.

EDIT - found the camera focus - slider in the top right corner - I like that better than the pinch - more accurate.

The app name is just 'Updater', located in the 'Tools' folder.

I love some of the stock Miui Apps.

- File Explorer got a facelift and is ten times better!
- Backup, Great for backing up apps and system stuff
- The Monitor app is awesome. Don't need a 3rd party app now to keep track of the 3g data usage. Also keeps track of incoming / outgoing call times.

Wow you guys are definately paving the way for our phones, thanks alot!

With all this talk about Miui, would you guys recommend this over Darkys? I'm running 10.2.2 , no TW (just cuz i dont know of anything else lol ) and i dont seem to have any significant problems to make me want to move to something else. I'm interested though in freeing up RAM as with mine i'm always running in the 280MBs used mark. Does it outperform Darkys?

Hey Matt - its faster. This weekend I'll write up some thoughts.

I'm definitely a MIUI expert - I've had it on my phone for over 12 hours </sarcasm>

So far I'm not crying to go back - although debated it earlier this morning, but have resolved my problems.

Between me, Adam, and Buck we're hashing out some stuff, running into different problems and collectively solving them - so hopefully the next flasher will be starting off from a different spot than us.

If you are happy on 10.2.2 and not itching to flash (I *had* to flash :) ) I would wait till some of the dust settles here.

... but right now - 12 hours in - pros are out weighing the cons - but if you HATE iOS, or LOVE the app drawer - then definitely wait on MIUI as its very iOSish and the app drawer are gone (I thought I'd miss it - I do not - great folder support).

Also, some errors are in Chinese (the updater when you go to register) but I have a friend from China who helped me out with that :)

Hey all,

Just got my Telus Fascinate 3G+ last week and got to this thread from the other one. Initially I bought a Nexus S but then found a mint used Fascinate at half the price. Sold the Nexus S and have been very happy with the Fascinate as it's specs are comparable and in some cases even better ie. 720p video recording.

After running stock 2.2 for a few days, I decided to take the plunge and start flashing. I'll try and add some pointers below for others to reference. Note I haven't touched Odin and only installed Kies for the device drivers in order to use Superoneclick and root the phone on 2.2 so I could unlock it. That was super simple thanks to Galaxy S Unlock (free) app found in the market.

First I flashed the Voodoo lagfix kernel after replacing the 3e recovery with the modified one allowing flashing of unsigned zips from this link: http://mortalpowers.com/news/clockw...laxy-s-vibrant-an-extremely-dangerous-journey
This allowed me to flash the voodoo kernel from recovery.

Next decided I wanted to try CM7 so I followed these instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1115090
Basic summary: I was at stock 2.2 with voodoo kernel. Followed the guide step by step bypassing the odin part.
1. Disable lagfix
2. Within CWM recovery flash Glitch13 kernel
3. Flash CM7 nightly for galaxysmtd (I flashed this right after 2.)
4. Reboot but it got stuck at the Samsung/CM logo or perhaps I didn't wait long enough!
5. Got into CWM recovery and flash Glitch13 kernel again
6. Rebooted and was in CM7.
7. Had no service / blank imei until I flashed an appropriate modem. That freaked me out :)

Everything ran well but decided to try MIUI. Went with Mintberry after seeing that in bucknetbucky's sig. Quite straightforward flash as I was already running the Glitch13 kernel. It's a very nice looking ROM coming from someone who had an iPhone. I've only been running MIUI for 24 hrs now and so far so good. A few lockups which were probably my fault ie. trying to restore apps/data from titanium backup made in 2.2.

Sorry for the long message. Love this phone and hopefully this thread will grow as it sounds like we have a good group ready to try stuff out!

Here's what's on my phone:
MintBerry 1.11.11 + Glitch13 + UGKG3 modem

While searching for a ROM to maximize battery life, I found Juwe's which a lot of peeps seem to like. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=964672&page=761

Has anyone tried it? I know there will be some button remapping required since it's an I9000 rom. Still need to do some research as I'm worried I'll lose 3 button recovery in case I need to flash a modem.

Welcome aboard Chubster - one thing I HIGHLY recommend is that you get yourself a USB jig. For example, I was pooched last night, without a jig I would have been dead in the water. We play a risk with our phone as its not supported by any ROM directly that I know of ... but its a calculated risk as we try things and support one another.

I know the jig has saved several of us at this point, and you would be hard pressed to find someone who would not recommend one :) Nice you were only on 2.2 as trying the different ROMs is much easier from froyo.

Also, if you want excellent battery life, I would recommend Darkys ROM which you will find lots of support on threads from same crew here moving to MIUI as most of started on that ROM. Its comparable to Juwe in look and feel - GREAT community support on their forums as well.

Another weird question.

I've had that GPS weird error a few times on navigation again - annoying - but also noticed that my voice prompt on navigation is not there - is it there on yours? I installed google search figured that would be it - but no go.

I might un-install maps/nav/lat/places and then re-install after a fresh reboot.

See how that goes.

Oh, don't use the OTA updater, just use ROM Manager. Or download the Miui updater app from the market.

I'm guessing MIUI originally was developed in China, lol
The miui updater is what I meant by ota (over the air) - looking forward to trying that next Friday ;)

Used the packaged updater to go to 1.11.18 today when I got home. Could not install from the app and my thought is because it put the ROM in a folder under the root. Flash manually and working great

Anybody that flashed Miui or CM7 and noticed their carrier name change to a number, look for bd-carrier-name-correction-07-29.zip. Flash from recover to get back to a name. I would post the URL but I am not home lol

Oh and look at the v6 supercharger script as well installed that and its even better ;)

Carrier Fix : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1174794

Supercharger : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276

Confirmed the carrier fix is nice and easy - best to leave it in your root as you might need to flash it with every ROM change (if you plan on flashing every Friday).

What's the benefit of the super charger - I think that's the right thread, very detailed - just didn't have the time to read yet - not enough coffee, and the kids are all up and ready to go LOL

Thanks Jeff for the Carrier Fix. :)

I ended up trying the SuperCharger script out, installed it with the script Manager App. It does make a noticeable difference, it changes the allocation of how the internal memory is managed by the OS. It works fine on Miui and settings stick after reboot as well :)
(I've read that some custom ROMs do not retain the changes after a reboot, there is a work around for that as well though.)

I ended up installing the 'Extended Settings Menu' Mod which is pretty neat, oh and they also have included an actual App Drawer in that Mod which I thought you may be interested in ;)

14.) Actually, one more Step which I have ONLY tested with Miui 1.11.11:
Once you have checked a few things out, we are going to want to Flash the Glitch-V13-DEV-TelusFascinate+ kernel. So boot back into CWM Recovery and Flash it the same way you flashed the ROM.
I have re-read everything over several times and I just can't seem to get it right. I have gotten to the Miui 1.11.11 but actually installed Miui 1.11.18. The problem is that I can't get into the CWM at this point. I'm am using ROM Manager Premium v4.8.0.3. I have done the installation over from scratch easily 10 times. :( - Can anyone provide some help?

Looks we need to assign the proper CMW recovery from ROMManager.
In ROM Manager, select 'Flash ClockWorkMod Recovery' >> Select I9000 (MTA) and choose version 3.

Once that is completed, boot into CWM via ROM Manager.
It should boot you into CWM (Blue), delete the partition and dalvik cache. Then re-flash the glitch kernel.

The main thing is to get the proper CWM selected in ROM Manager, the I9000 works with the T959D Model.

The 3 button way works for me -- both volumes + power and let go when you see the galaxy s logo. Might take a few times but will work then flash the extended power options that iwebsource has in his first post so you can easily reboot into recovery moving forward
