And we are assuming you are running cm7 or miui but as buck says flashing modems through Cwm you should be fine.

CM7 T959D

Well finally got running on CM7.1, lol the Darky resurrection part needs to be stressed more, I didn't do that the first time and well not much worked for me. Everything is good now though, which modem is everyone running? I have both the JL2 and KC1, seems JL2 runs better in my area. Are there any other newer modems out a guy should be using?

BTW the Glitch kernel rocks and CM 7.1 is also very clean and highly customizable.
I tried a little ICS but it didn't do much for me, alothough I did just run the kernel that came with it, not the fugu one.....

I haven't had any data issues lately... Currently using 12.9 MIUI

Signal strength on the KG3 has not been a good as others I have compared it to in the Vancouver region. Sitting next to a friend on bell with an S2 in Burnaby on the bottom floor of a townhouse he had 4 bars whereas I was struggling with 1.
I was out in UBC which has some notoriously sweet dead spots, I couldn't get any reception compared to my blackberry bold which has 2 bars (apples and oranges, I know).
In the city for the most part my reception is just fine.
I'll give 1 of the other modems a try.

Display issue

Does flashing i9000 Custom ROMs like Darky's and Cyanogenmod on a T959D scale your screens display back ~1mm on all four sides?

Mine's done it on both and it's annoying. Is there a fix?

You might have to show a screenshot of that - I don't recall that being an issue for me on Darky's, MIUI, or even ICS.

Never an issue for me either. I don't think a screenshot would do it as it would only capture the display and not the space around the edge ;)

[T959D][MIUI] Fresh Install

Well, back to MIUI after a brief stint with ICS. While I loved the look and feel of ICS - some stuff still felt a bit buggy and with me returning to work Tuesday, needed some stability.

Still did a fresh install - factory reset, wiped cached, batt stats and loaded up 12.30. Works well - also flashed:

- KC1 Modem.
- V13 of the Glitch Kernel
- 4 Way reboot.
- Newest overscroll and MIUI control panel for 12.30
- Carrier fix.

All good again. Noted that I was previously using the old overscroll which was likely the cause of some of the odd issues I had with the status bar on other 12.x releases.

Also, I had used the MIUI back up to back up my desktop settings prior to flashing ICS - restoring those (along with Apps using TB) made getting my layout and folders back easy peasy.

I'll likely go back to ICS at some point, but right now on the latest and greatest MIUI.

Also, was tweaking GPS and did two things.

1. MIUI puts a Europe NTP server in, change it to ca.pool.ntp.org

2. Followed the instructions in this post (http://www.miui-au.com/howtos/faster-gps-fix/)

My GPS locks instantaneously.
