And just so I understand, if and when I get to download mode do I have to flash stock GB vi odin, then flash to Darkyrom 10.4.2 off my sdcard via clockwork mod?

All better, I found the stock froyo rom, used the jig to get into download mode and flashed to that successfully via odin.
Then flashed 10.2RE via odin, installed Darkyrom OTA and flashed 10.4.2 to get back to where I wanted to be.

Happy :)

That's the steps I take as well - flash to stock - RE - then OTA to flash what I need.

I'm thinking of making a jump to ICS again this weekend (just need time to do it - hard with limited time and two kids :) ) but have the files.

The semaphore kernel (2.4.0 or 2.5.0) is worth checking out Finn - I find that really flies and boot up is FAST. Also, liking GO launcher lately - very nice animations, etc.

I'm also using Go Launcher and have been fooling around with the Supercharger scripts and Tegrak OC. I'd like to check out the semaphore kernel, could you give me a quick how to if you don't mind, I'd appreciate that.

Sure - the download links are all in XDA (just google search 'xda semaphore 2.5.0' that will take you the post.

You want to use a regular one or a bm one (has bm at the end). If you use bm, video won't work well (hd). I use the normal ones and I am using 2.4.0.

Download it, put it on your SD, and get SGS Flasher (free on the market) to flash the kernel - that easy.

If you have issues let me know - can write more details later tonight likely.

Excellent, lagfixes on or off before flashing?

edit: Ok, flashed with it off and it worked ok...I'll let you know what I think about it later :) .

Hey jpmccarthy, I can't make a nandroid backup since installing the Semaphore kernel. I tried everything but ended up reflashing 10.4.2 with the stock kernel and now I can make one so I'm going to assume there's some sort of compatibility issue.

Have you been able to make a backup since flashing Semaphore?

Have not tried... Did one just before.... I'll give it a kick.

EDIT: Just tried it - worked fine but never updated teh progress bar - but completed right to the checksum.

I'm on 2.4.0 plain (no BM), what kernel are you on?

Flashed back to Semaphore and tried again, this is what I get:

E:failed to mount /dbdata (invalid argument)

--Installing package...
Finding update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.

Oh well, can't blame a guy for tryin'

Hey guys miss me yet lol. Back on darky for now wanna try something new.

Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
LOL - always miss you Buck. Things have been quiet on the forums - iwebsource switched phones, and things have been relatively quiet.

I've been back on Darky's for a while - new version is quite snappy. I also run supercharger on it with the semaphore kernel.

Wacky - as I said, my progress bar would not update during but definitely no errors on my side. Very odd.

Might want to look at everything from scratch - next on my to do - format the ext SD card so I get rid of all the MIUI, ICS, and various Darky version stuff. My phone's a bit bloated as a result - just have to back up my photos :)

I'd also like to do that but I'd be a little nervous about what I can get rid of and what I'd need to keep.

Do you have a strategy in mind to do this by chance? You've pretty much been blazing the trail for me:D...

edit: wait a second, I forgot I don't even have and ext SD but should I still consider cleaning up the internal?

I want to clean it up totally so I can get rid of stuff that's been filling up there from the various ROM. I could have my terminology off but I believe the internal SD card is the /system partition, and what people call the external SD is where you put your files for flashing, etc (noting that you can still add another true external SD card in the slot in the phone).

I think a format, and a few cache wipes is always nice - not something I've had the luxury to do but definitely something I want to do if I look at flashing again to get a nice clean install of a custom ROM.

After talking with Buck, I'd likely boot to CWM - do all my factory resets, etc and format the SD - then go into download mode and go to 2.2 stock and build out from there.

I want to do some more reading first ensuring I'm not losing any phone settings or data in that process that I should have backed up first.

I recently moved Titanium Backups to my 'real' external SD so I have it there separate from the partitions on the phone.

I'm all ears, I think I'm gonna go grab and external sd, they're pretty inexpensive it seems. May help as a place to hold backups while cleaning up the internal sd.
