I got this same problem when I installed CM7 on my T959d for the first time and Odin hung after clicking [Start]. Rebooted my phone and was greeted with a nice soft-brick screen. What a scare that was.

Here's what I did:

1. Take out the battery from the phone.
2. Plug the phone via USB to the PC (odin was open)
3. Hold down [VOL -] key
4. Hold down [POWER] key

I don't remember if the SGH-GTI9000 screen popped up, but if it does, wait for it to switch back to a black screen and then release just the [POWER] key, keeping [VOL -] pressed.

That put me back in Download Mode. Fired up ODIN again and the flash was successful this time around.

edit: Also, the Semaphore kernel i see in i9000 is for JVS roms. I'm not sure how that would affect darkys, since it's a JVR rom.

Thanks Japots,
Ya, I have tried this method but unfortunately no luck. I gave it another shot anyways just to be sure but still nothing. I really bricked it good I tell ya!!..

I really should of read a little more on the Semaphore kernel first before attempting this. Lesson learned now.

10.2 Resurection install

First off : Big thanks for throwing this thread up for us! Very informative.:)

It appears from this thread and via the DarkyROM site that the release cycle went from 10.2.2. > 10.3 > 10.2. Is this correct?

Judging from what I can follow here (via iwebsources posts) the most recent successful/stable release installed on a Fascinate 959D covered in the thread was 10.3. If the most stable release available for download is now 10.2 (assuming it is the successor to 10.3), has anybody tested this as working on the 959D?

If 10.2 is the latest and someone can verify it's working stable on a 959D with the same install steps I'll go that route. Otherwise where can I still download an old copy of 10.3 that's being referenced in this thread?

10.2 (RE through Odin) will give you a nice clean install complete with wipe. iwebsource did that first - and there are otehrs on Darkys running that just fine on t959d - however, we always want latest and greatest which at the time was 10.3 (but was BETA).

I've now read that 10.2.2 is the final (off Darkys) and that 10.3 is going to be deprecated - there is a new JVS release on 2.3.5 gingerbread which is likely the latest.

All that being said, I have not tried these updates yet (waiting for a download jig *just in case*). As well, I really don't understand the JVR, JVQ, JVS but *believe* that it applies to the modem.

If anyone would like to share some info there I would appreciate it as I further educate myself :)

What was the reason for the kernel change? I'm a n00b with Android, but even more of a n00b with the guts of it stuff - I did two kernel changes on my phone - voodoo lagfix on 2.2, and speedmod to get root on 2.3.3 - nothing too complicated.

So I don't get a lot of the changes, other than I believe its the Linux core so enables overclocking and stuff like that - is that it?

I just want to say that by following the "guide" that iwebsource posted on the first page of this thread i successfully flashed my SGS fascinate to Darky 10.2.2. However, i did have one problem and you guys might be able to help me out.

When i first went from stock 2.3.3 rooted to 10.2 RE, everything installed properly however i didn't have any mobile connection. I could connect to my WiFi, but nothing else. I tried to add a new APN with telus's settings but no dice i couldn't get it. So i just went ahead and flashed the new 10.2.2 with the DarkyROM app, and still i didn't have mobile browsing. I ended up flashing back to froyo for the time being until i can figure out what i did wrong. Any ideas?

ridiculous battery life!!

hi again, just a lil' update to say that the battery lasts very and i do mean VERY long. i'm now at 9% but it's been 56 hours since i charged my phone!! and believe me, i used it in this period, heck i even overclocked it to 1.2 using tegrak overclock.

now proudly running darky rom 10.2 and i LOVE it!!!!! it's fast as hell, incredibly responsive and i feel like i have a new cellphone. quadrant score (antutu) a lil' over 3000! thx again iwebsource!!!!!!

@matt5606 did you make sure to use the included .pit and the like when flashing?? also, i was on 2.3.3 when i flashed 10.2 RE, maybe you'd be better to start with that version (telus released it, but i guess you were aware of that) good luck man!

Attempting Install

Got my jig today so giving this a go. Flashing seemed to go well along with the repartitioning - now staring at the Darky's ROM logo - not sure if it needs to do some clean up (this is just after the welcome message) but right now the phone is not booting up.

Patience is a virtue so will leave it go a bit, but let me know if anyone experienced the same or if there's a long wait time on first boot.

Thanks y'all.

EDIT: PATIENCE was the answer :)

EDIT: I foolishly did not uninstall 3rd party apps so was getting a LOT of forced closes - once they cycled out, performance was OK - uninstalled a few but am now putting on 10.2.2 and will test that out and use titanium (which I re-installed) to remove some of the user apps that are causing issues. Will report back.

@sicknixon

Yeah I updated through kies just over a month ago when it came out. And when I first installed RE, I followed the instructions right to the letter. Was i supposed to reinstall the modem after I finished installing 10.2.2?

althought i am no expert, i would believe that no but i guess it's worth a try. now, by using everything included, everything should go fine.you could always try to flash stock 2.3.3 and start over, it could work as i've had no problem during the installation (except the mentioned app force closing).

10.2.2 Installed Successfully

So 10.2.2 is now installed on my phone, and I am re-installing apps via Titanium Backup - which is working perfectly (the hardest part is that I don't want to install every app I had - so trying to be picky).

I will see how this goes but actually might try a re-install at some point from scratch and format my SD if I can move the backup files out, and then back in - but we'll see on that one.

So far in limited testing wireless works, mobile wireless works, phone works - keys did not work but used ES File Manager to manually change them (enabling root access) and now HOME, BACK and SEARCH all work as expected.

No issues as far as I can tell at the moment - and followed the instructions to the letter to install the resurrection ODIN version 10.2, and then used the Darky ROM tool to apply 10.2.2 on the phone.

I played around some more with my phone. Turns out I can't get into download mode anymore, only recovery. My jig is on order now, hopefully get it back on somethin other than froyo lol. Is there a way to flash 10.2 RE straight from froyo, or would I have to step up to it from say 9.5?

UPDATE: So i must have been doing something wrong to get into download mode even though i did it like 5 times before :S I was able to reflash 10.2 RE over froyo, then upgrade to 10.2.2. I was ALSO able to get my mobile working (thank god!) by installing the KG2 modem through recovery (thx de_niska, you're a lifesaver!). I love this ROM!

Glad to hear T959D users are enjoying their Darkys install!

Now, once you guys get bored of the Darky's theme (too green and drab for me) , I'd suggest cooking up your own theme here: http://uot.dakra.lt/today_s_menu/

I'm currently using Version P battery, HD Sense icons, recolored overglow effects, themed lock-screen, and the CM7 boot animation (not in kitchen).

Is anyone getting force closes when there are incoming calls?

I've always wondered how ppl upgrade roms like cm7 and get away with just a cache and dalvik wipe when I don't do full data erase flash player stops working til I wipe data. Any ideas why this is?

Just a guess, but maybe because CM7 is AOSP-based while other roms are Samsung based?

I had to do a data-wipe when I tried out CM7 and when I restored the backups Titanium Backup created, most apps worked but some didn't. Adobe Flash is easy to reinstall though, so its a non-issue for me.

Awesome rom!
Followed all the instructions and everything works like a charm. I'm now on 10.2.2 w/o TW.

From darkyrom.com itself "DarkyROM v10.3 JVR is not as new as v10.2.2 and will be discontinued because v10.2.2 is more stable."
Very snappy response! It does seem like battery life has improved drastically compared to Telus 2.3.3, but I'm taking my time reinstalling all my old apps to rule out any apps being the cause of the battery drain so only time will tell.
menu, home, back, search all work after modifying the file with ES file explorer.
GPS works, locks in 15-30secs, best accuracy was within 30m, on stock 2.3.3 it wouldn't even lock.
No force closes from incoming calls, but got a force close/unresponsive/reboot from an attempted video chat via gtalk but it's stated that there are a few bugs.
I'm very impressed! Been through several froyo roms like darky, bionic, nero, this has been the best so far. Wish my fascinate was always like this.

Great to hear man, this ROM should come stock from factory lol. What are the noticeable differences between installing touch wiz 4.5.and not? I've installed TW from it but now it seems I've now got 2 launchers.
