CyanogenMod works great (was one of the main reasons I switched to Cyanogen) for this issue and since I rarely use the trackball, I think it will stay in shape for a while (I've seen the video from Google where they actually test the lifetime of trackballs and it was in the thousands and thousands of clicks :D)

It kinda sucks though that they didn't spend more time designing the power button...I might have to switch out my Nexus soon while it's still under warranty!

Hopefully Gingerbread will have a similar feature integrated in the OS....it's a necessity!

..No trackball wake. But them on the next occasion all it fine. Weird.
Yeah, sounds weird... hope the trackball isn't next to start bugging out...
Fortunatley it isnt the trackball at fault, because I widgetlocker allows any button wake and the Volume buttons wont wake it either.

Trouble with CyanogenMod is it is not solution for us virgins who do not want to root.

But here's hoping Gingerbread provides an inbuild substitute for the dodgy Off/On button. My bet is it wont though.

Now I just got to work out the most cost effective way to tackle my second international warranty return for the same N1 and same fault, in 3 months. The last event cost me ~$100 in shipping

Power button is completely unresponsive on my Nexus now. I'm using trackball wake on cyanogen and haven't rebooted in a long time as well. Called HTC today and requested repair. Let's how it turns out.

Heh, mine barely works when I press it on the left side...I've also not rebooted for a while, and if I do ever need to do it, i'll just use terminal emulator --> reboot :)

As for my warranty, I'm quite happy that it's my carrier that's taking care of the warranty because if something ever happens, I just bring it back and they instantly give me a new one ;)

They also won't look very far as to if I rooted, changed rom! (Of course, my bootloader is still locked)

After my second power button repair under warranty at HTC, the button is unresponsive again :( I know it is the Flex Cable Ribbon of the button. I ordered a spare part on Ebay: h**p://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=400165441740&ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:US:1123 and now I fix it by my self, so I don´t have to wait weeks for the repair at HTC. Maye I can protect the flex ribbon, what is connected in a 90° angle to the mainboard with something so it won´t break again.

I use lock and no lock widgets to avoid using the power button. I live in Canada and fear a broken power button, which still works fine.

I use "lock screen widget" to instantly turn off my screen and "widget locker" to power it back on (it has hardware key wake functions). Neither requires root (although I am rooted, but for nearly 2 months when I wasn't I used these two apps). If you want to reboot without using the power button, I guess you can pull the battery...

Mine started effing up a month ago. But it's still working if I press on the really right side of the power button. I find that if the button is pressed deep enough the thing will work.

What if your phone freezes. Theres no way you can go into terminal emulator. The only way is to pull the battery out right? Then how are ya gonna boot it up again?

Pull and reinsert the battery will boot the phone - may take a number of attempts.

Pulling and replacing the battery and SIM should work first time...

There just aint no pleasing some people. At least 3 options were given. All 3 weren't good enough. If you want something better, get to coding. If you want it stock from Google, get to filling out the job application.
