Terrible battery life.

There are apps that can help you!

Hi,

I have a note 7 and for the past couple days the battery has been abysmal. Averaging 3 hours of screen on time. Also, the phone constantly gets hot (especially outside) that it has to lower maximum brightness to keep the device from overheating. With the phone on standby, overnight with always on display OFF, I will drain 10% of the battery.

Do any other note 7 users get this? I even drained 5% typing this post.
Try to see what's going on in the background. I downloaded Package Disabler Pro (cost money). I then downloaded GSAM Battery monitor from the app store and saw my stats.

My android system went from draining almost 50% of my battery down to 11%. I can provide an XML file if you require it (to see which are safe to disable). <--- may vary depending on what apps and services you need.

Hope this helps! Cheers

Here's my battery life. I've had the phone since Thursday. It's close to what I got on my iPhone 6 Plus. This was with light gaming, Facebook, texting, Facebook Messenger, Reddit and Tapatalk. Not bad if you ask me. My brightness is on auto, I do use the iris scanner and the screen is in cinema mode.

PS: I'm on AT&T with the SD820.

You have the Android System and os drain bug.
It's stealing a couple hours SOT from you. It would be way better without the issue.

People getting this 3hrs SOT or less must be more related to something else.
That's a much more serious issue than what the standard MM bug does.

Here ya go, enjoy :)

Moderate usage with text, Facebook, FB Messenger, Reddit and Tapatalk. I have Samsung sync enabled and google. Screen set to auto with the blue light filter. I just did a cache clear x3 and a factory reset. Both from recovery and it's been over a day since then.

Yeah, 24 hours of usage is terrible...

You're not seeing the whole picture.

Batteries have gotten much bigger but the bug that started in MM is stealing 20%+
They could slap a 5000mah battery in it with 30-40% drain from the bug and you'll still think 2 days is amazing?

The phone isn't working right is the point. It should be doing much better.

May be true, I haven't been on Android since the Note 3. Coming from a iPhone 6+ this is pretty damn good.

At the end of the day I totally get it that as long as it does what you need your happy. But the os is flawed.

I wish I knew how to fix it instead of just pointing it out. But first you need awareness and then hopefully that brings change.

Oh I understand, I know there's issues. Always has been, question is though is it Google or Samsung that's causing the issue?

Google.
Same issue can be seen on many different devices with MM.
So far looking like N still has the issue too.

The few people in here only getting like 1.5hrs SOT is something else it seems. Much worse than typically seen from the bug.

Android system is a culmination of many different processes that run when you are and aren't using youe phone. There should not be much wakelock with android system but it includes things like wallpapers, fingerprint scanner, screen touch sensing etc. But as you use different applications and keep busy on your phone the usage of AS will go down as other applications take the lead. For instance if you have Google search enabled with ok google activates on any screen....thats android system. Usage seems fine. I post a picture yesterday where i had a little ovwr 3hrs SOT and was down to 50% IMO that's pretty good. Granted was homw and on Wi-Fi, but still it's better than what some people are reporting.

Is android system really the culprit? This is mine.

This is my SOT at the same time

Both are top 2 on my list. Screen on time being 1st.

We understand that Android system and os is a cumulation of things.
That's just the simplest way to describe it since no one has for sure narrowed it down yet.
Aside from seeming to be linked to WiFi being enabled. That's about all that can be replicated on many devices so far.
Also the amount of users claiming that a restart immediately after charging to 100% and unplugging is high enough to take note of.

The "bug" isn't universal. Or if it is there's some combination of things going on that make it far worse for some then others. My Note5's battery life improved on 6.0. I'm a heavy productivity user and syncs and background processes do me in more than screen on time. I had to top up my Note5 mid-day to get from 6:00AM to 8:00PM. My Note7 gets through with about 20-30% left over. Android System never gets above 20% on my phone and I have 100+ apps installed. So there's something unique about phones getting battery life as atrocious as some here are sharing.

Yes. It really is. Well something that is grouped under android system and os anyways to be specific.
Not sure how much clearer it can be than showing that it drains so much right in the usage list.

Devices that don't have the bug will show android system using one third or less than Screen and usually under at least an app or two that you use regularly.
We're seeing people that played a game for an hour or two and android system is above that. Pretty clear there is something wrong there.

This also started in MM and effects many models.

It's not effecting quite 100% running MM but it's close.
Some fluke things that are considered standard practice for better battery have fixed it for a very limited amount of users only to not be reproduced by most others.
It's a real PITA.

I'm noticing the same on my note 7 in addition to it being REALLY LAGGY (like, BAD!) and having an intermittent issue with wireless charging (doesn't matter what one I use (have tylt, Nokia's and Samsung fast wireless chargers) where I often wake up in the morning to a 50% charge instead of full as it should be.

Mine is going back.

If you comb through some of the replies, I had a similar experience. I was having some insane battery drain, and that included some mornings making it to work and the battery being below 70% after being off the charger for an hour or hour and a half.

I did a full factory reset and freshly installed all my apps. It cleared everything up for me, including battery life and the lag.
