I only got my P6 this morning and am still trying to identify a suitable SP - so have yet to order any.

But I have some spare SPs for my OnePlus Nord 5g - which I probably won't be needing. They are not the exact same size and there is no selfie cam cutout - but I decided I don't want to risk any scratches on the P6 screen - so worth installing one of the Nord ones on the P6 - just for now.

The one I fitted (I think) is a Pkila Compatible with Oneplus Nord Tempered Glass Screen Protector - which I bought off Amazon last year.

Having quickly fitted the Nord SP onto the P6 (did not have high hopes - so just slapped it on) - the fingerprint reader is working just fine. Maybe it takes an ms longer to accept the fingerprint.

I tried both L+R thumbs and index fingers - all they unlock the phone!!

The build number is SD1a.210817.036

I should mention - I registered my prints before applying the SP (did both thumbs twice though!)

Did you guys try to use a plastic screen protector? I don't have one myself, otherwise I would test it directly.

At least as snappy. Keep in mind, I set it up after the software upgrade and do not use a screen protector.
I upgraded from an OnePlus Nord 5G - the Pixel6 seems just as smooth - for normal day to day stuff.
Previously had the OP 7T - which I sold when I got the Nord 5G and I did not notice any performance difference between the Nord and 7T. But I dont play games - just internet, phone, music and Netflix etc.

Still missing some of the OnePlus launcher features and gestures etc - and the slider!
Getting used to the P6...

I used Nova with my 6t, not much change for me on that end. So far, pretty happy with the Pixel 6. Theming is still limited, but that should change.

Zuhtly screen protector I tried makes the fingerprint sensor unusable. Even with setting up multiple fingerprints with same finger.

I restarted the phone and my fingerprint scanner is fixed. I increased touch sensitivity and it didn't change anything at first but after a restart it works like before I put the screen protector on.

Posted this on the Google Pixel sub reddit yesterday.

So I had to switch screen protectors to get the fingerprint reader to work. My first version was too thick. After replacing the glass, I setup each thumb 3 times and getting a solid 95% success rate. My other thumb that only has 2 setups has a little more of an issue. The sensor is a little slow but works.

Does not work with fingerprint sensor:

This is the glass I got to work with the sensor:

So you are now running with or w/o a protector?
I have the cheapest tempered glass zuhtly screen protector from amazon on and its working 75% of the time. I went from it working 0% of the time to working 75% of the time just by restarting the phone. Animation scale set to 1x, increased touch sensitivity on & I setup the same thumb twice after restarting.

Hi all,

Anyone having much luck with the finger print reader? Setting it up works like a charm but actually unlocking the devices 9 out of 10 times! End up having to enter the PIN instead. Just keeps saying that it's not recognised. I've tried a few fingers but really it would only be my thumbs that use it, even deleted them all and started again. I do have a Spigen screen protector on but I have that on when setting them up in the first place which like I said works OK.

Thanks
I have hyperhidrosis and I haven't had much of an issue, especially compared to my old Galaxy A71.

I have really large thumbs and the Pixel 6 is the first phone that let me unlock with my thumbs. That being said, I can not get it to unlocked with the screen protector I ordered. Many of them are out of stock.

It would be good to know if someone finds a tempered glass screen protector that works with the finger print scanner. I ordered several that are in stock and will test.

I have the SuperShieldz TmGlss, added thumb once, index finger 3 times. turned up sensitivity. Thumb rarely works, finger works as well as my outgoing Sammy S9, which is acceptable.

Just a FYI for anyone interested. I received my Pixel 6 on 10/27. After reading the issues with the optical fingerprint scanner I decided to try the armorshield film for the pixel 6.

Granted it is not ideal but with the issues coming up with the glass screen protectors I figured why not.

Anyway after it was installed on the phone I added my left thumb twice, my right thumb once and each index finger.
Left thumb and index fingers worked almost flawless.

Took a while to read but worked.

Right thumb had some issues. Most likely cause of the way I hit the screen.

Anyone who is familiar using any film knows it takes a couple of days till the film smooths out. ( for a lack of a better term)

What I have noticed after 4 days of use is it seems to be improving with use.

I would say it is 100% better now than when I started out when I first started with the phone.

Hope this helps some.

Anyone who's having problems where it doesn't read your finger at all or very rarely. Try rebooting the phone and see if it helps at all. if you notice an improvement it might be a calibration issue. Try going to https://pixelrepair.withgoogle.com on your computer using Chrome and install the fingerprint calibration software onto your device.

Let me know if this works for anyone else.

Im fully updated, using tempered glass screen protector with increased touch sensitivity on. I noticed that the fingerprint sensor only worked for an hour or so after rebooting before not recognizing my thumb anymore so I tried the calibration software and it seems to have helped a little. The fingerprint scanner is very slow but if I hold my finger there long enough it will unlock on first or second try.

I changed the thread title as I took the screen protector off and it works perfectly. Contacted Spigen so hopefully they'll come back to me

I think I might have come across something that might help some having problems with the FPR.
A couple days ago I ran across a article that gave some suggestions on how to correct the FPR issues. I decided to give it a try.
First understand as I have said before I'm not using glass. I decided to go with that ArmorShield film. If you like you can check out my other post in this thread on how that was working out for me.
So this article suggested to use some moisturizer BEFORE recording your fingerprints. So I have vaseline fast absorbing moist. Put some on my hands, and rubbed it in (so as not so mess up my screen of course). I then removed all the fingerprints I had stored and added them again. 2 of my left thumb, 1 of my right thumb and both index fingers. I went slow and basicly held my phone how I would use it and followed the on screen directions. All I can say is at least in my case WOW!!!!
I can honestly say that now at least for my phone it works as well as any other phone I have or have had with the rear FPR.
I also DO have the Increase touch sensitivity turned on in the display settings.
I have to say I did not think something as simple as moisturizing my hands would make such a difference.
I do understand as with any tech there are possibilities of bad units and I'm sure some for the Pixels will come up however I am hoping this will work for some of you guys as it did for me.
