Terrible screen tint/uniformity

Hi guys, looks like OnePlus have got some quality control issues. My unit has terrible colour issues with the display. It's very noticeable at low brightness levels and still apparent around the 50% mark. I've reached out to OnePlus about sorting out a replacement unit. Since they don't offer advanced RMA I don't hold out much hope for a quick solution!

Seems this is similar issue as with s20 ultra panels. They also have quite a few green screens at low backlight. Mine seems more or less uniform but still has strange tint on low brightness. Someone mentioned to try to turn DC dimming in experimental settings to lower the impact of low brightness, but I havent tested that.

My Samsung tab s6 is the same in lower brightness, seems common with the lastest generation Samsung oleds

I have a similar problem with mine. It looks like clouding with a dark grey background at low brightness. I have also figured that it's far worse with 120 hz vs 60 hz.

Same issue for mine!!

https://www.reddit.com/r/oneplus/co..._pro/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

OnePlus said I have 30 days from the day I received the device to send it back in, see if it passes their inspection, and then hopefully have a new one sent to me. It takes 12 days to go through the process. What a shame.

I am located in Germany and we can return the whole thing within 2 weeks, no questions asked. I am not dealing with them to inspect the phone etc. I will just send it back. Too bad, as I ordered a blind box in a special promo action and got a lot of accessories in the box. But still not worth it.

Interestingly the "burn ins" or what ever it is look very similar. It's the worst on the buttom/side of the phone and around thr front camera, in all the pictures I have seen. Also it's worse at 120 hz compared to 60 hz for me. Why are those problems at similar spots though? ?

Has anyone got their device and using it at 120hz fairly bright with no issues. I was tempted to order one tomorrow but this is putting me off a little.

I've seen other people with the same problem now in some German forums. Definitely doesn't seem to be isolated. More like a Displaygate!

FINALLY: OnePlus 8 Pro: OnePlus confirms that the black crush issue is a hardware defect, offers replacements.

    https://www.notebookcheck.net/OnePl...ware-defect-offers-replacements.463468.0.html

hate to break it to you but a article with screenshot of oneplus chat is not a official announcement....
until a website like XDA/Android Authority etc has article that shows OnePlus press announcement or someone at OnePlus officially announcing it then its NOT them admitting anything.

I did this test at lowest brightness https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fv6T7aHsd54&t=316s
Its not the best as I only notice box no 15 onwards however its much better then my Pixel 2 XL which has a worse LG panel where I see 45 onwards.

However I dont watch tv or movies on my phone so never noticed it on the LG so wont on here. However if people get replacements from amazon with better panels I may swap just to ensure I get a good one even thogh none of my issues are visible during normal use.

I cant agree with you here. This is official response from OnePlus technical support chat on their site. What could be more official than this? :p

    seriously?
look at the source of the article.....its Reddit NOT OnePlus the company
The person on reddit posted screen shot of ONE chat agent who half the time dont know what they talking about posting that.
Do you even know what a proper source of article looks like?

A confirmation would be a announcement from OnePlus themselves on their website saying the black crush issue is hardware and you can replace it. its NOT a random chat person. For it to be official it has to come from OnePlus the company and its media rep to be classified as official. And it would need to be posted as a announcement, NOT screen shot from random chat.

im out think what you want

This was my chat a few minutes ago

Its useless talking to chat about this issue as you will get different answers from different people.
only reason to even talk to them is arrange a replacement or refund.

They raised the min brightness same as OP have done with 10.5.5.
The green hue at 10-30 percent is different and could be fixable through software. But the bad Grey's and when it isn't uniform in very low brightness is different and that's a hardware issue but is more normal for an oled. I only see it at the lowest brightness in the dark with night mode on

Because people look for it ,I have had some touch lag issues ,solved with a factory reset,as for screen tint etc .I have not seen it in MY everyday use ,it might be there might not ,I don't go looking for it with test images etc .I use my phone's hours every day and no complaints on screen colour issues etc
But if you are paying someone **** load of money dont you expect something yoy were promised.. why would someone buy something which is full of bugs..
Would have bought xaomi cheapster phones
