Tethering on Verizon UDP without root?

Does anyone know how the 6P will handle tethering on Verizon with an unlimited data plan? I really want to try to go without rooting (for Android Pay and various other reasons). I saw droid-life posted the Moto X Pure is able to tether out of the box without the subscription check, but they stated it was "probably temporary". Does anyone know if that was ever "fixed", or is that the new norm for stock android?

Still works on mxp, foxfi doesn't work on all phones. I would be willing to guess it will work without subscription check.

how does the N6 handle the carrier entitlement check? I know that vzw uses a custom app to do the checking - however, as of 5.x, you simply need to modify the build.prop to get tethering working again. does anyone think it's possible that these models skip the whole carrier dependency?

I also have unlimited but am very interested in the 6p. I have run lots of custom roms with root that have let a user use the stock tether app, but I don't really understand the relationship with root and how the tether app works. If it looks like we will be able to get the tether app to bypass the carrier check I probably am on board for a 6p.

Can anyone share more thoughts about how this works?

I assume it generally is easy to get root on a nexus device?

I think it is rather moot. Verizon, AT&T, etc. don't really care anymore if you pay for tether. They just want you to use data. The more the merrier, as they get more $ the more you use data, so tether all you want!
Except you missed his point, he has unlimited data still.

I'm expecting it to skip entitlements checks just like the mxp does. If not nexus devices are easy to root due to the unlocked bootloader capability.

This device I'm sure will have a root solution day one if needed.

Example is the nexus 6. It did check for subscription, but is easily bypassed.

this was the answer i was looking for. a quick edit to the build.prop and there's no problem.

BTW if you have UDP today, figure out a way to lock yourself in a contract, otherwise your UDP rate is going to increase $20/mo starting 11/15.

I would also like to know if tethering on the Nexus 6P will be like the MXP on verizon with unlimited data. The problem with root is that Android pay will not work on a rooted phone.

For those of us still pulling down a good amount of data (~20gb a month for me) I think it makes sense to pay the increased bill as it's still cheaper than anything else out there.

Or just go under contract using the Best Buy upgrade method, I did this last month so I shouldn't get the increase until 2017.

Best buy method doesn't work anymore. Reports of several people losing unlimited that way. Best bet is to transfer the upgrade to another line and upgrade that phone to keep under contract.

some of us still have the web & email discount. i've been paying $9.99/mo/line for UDP since probably 2010. the increase in UDP (may) increase my rates $40/mo/line. that's $960/yr. getting under contract is the best thing i can possibly do.

I have this plan as well. I pay $67/mo after tax for 450 minutes, unlimited text, and unlimited data.

As of when? I bought a Note5 on contract about 3 weeks ago and had no issues.
