Tethering signal is very weak!! :(

Recently I updated my sister's galaxy fit to gingerbread 2.3.6 DDKT3... & since then (I guess) when tethering is enabled, my laptop gets very weak signal reception. Even when the phone is kept on the laptop (next to touchpad) it shows 3/4 signal bars. When the phone is about 2-3 feet away, the signal on my laptop reduces to 2/4 bars.
Is there any method to fix this??

Maybe it has something to do with the transmission power of the device. Maybe, you'll just have to live with it.
