Even better than I did - that's cool...I got the 32Gb at Office Depot this morning for 299.00! No hassle or lines which was nice. Now been reading on rooting it - know I'll be asking some questions very soon!

You can check out some YouTube videos from my friend Imraan on how to root the device. If interested, I can post a link.

Thanks much! I can do a search for them unless you have a link handy. Been reading a good bit and this is more general because currently charging for first time and not sure of ICS/firmware versions though must be ICS and not JB (not sure it's necessary, but I'm following instructions on doing a full 8 hour charge before powering up first time).

And yes, will submit a new "appropriate" post, but hoping for some initial info as may be old posts and am a bit confused. Right now would rather not void the warranty if can help it by unlocking the bootloader. Posts from 6 months ago say can root, install SuperSU, run and then backup with Voodoo OTA Root keeper, run JB update and restore root (and here again, read + & - for updating to JB but figure JB update is way to go at this point, lol). Or Sparky if running or downgraded to v10.4.2.17 (though only see the v10.4.2.17 firmware provided by ASUS and states software needs to match firmware?).

Read newer posts stating bootloader must be unlocked first (but lose ability for OTA), then root...and one post said can be issues if not done in this order (that's what I did for my EVO3D, but knew I could get it back to factory for warranty if needed to). So not sure if the old method is still supported, do I create any issues rooting first (again another post talking about temp unrooting & unlocking bootloader to do in right order!)?

So long story short, at this stage figuring I'm running newer ICS version with it being a new purchase with the old posts outdated. I'll have to bite the bullet and unlock first (figure following philos64's [INDEX]23 nov 2012 - TF300T/TG WITH ALL ASUS ORIGINAL TOOLS-Firmwares-Kernels-Guides? Or option to downgrade first to get "old" method to work, but is it worth the add'l steps? Think ideal for me is rooting, installing TWRP for nandroid backups (not sure am considering custom ROMs at this point), and if necessary for some reason, unlock bootloader at a later time.

Sorry for long post, but hoping can cut down on the massive amount of reading/posts to what is valid/workable now!

Hi all, just bought a TF300T @ Best Buy and I have a few questions, the main being what the best rooting method is. I found this video on YouTube and I am pretty sure it'll work as long as I use the new recovery-jb.img. The original video was for ICS only but the link to XDA in the vid now has the JB image.

I know unlocking the bootloader will void the warranty so I want to be sure that I'm using the most up to date method.

Any help and pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks:D

You guys can use the one below.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1706588

Its just for rooting and u you won't break warranty. Also its only for ICS. Don't update to JB just yet as I don't think there's a method to root yet. After you root your ICS download "OTA root keeper" and do a "protect root" and make sure all the boxes gets checked. You can then update to JB over the air once you get the notification. After JB update open up OTA Rootkeeper and do a "restore root" to regain root.

Thanks but it's already got 4.1.1 JB on it. Most all of the new 1's do.

Also, took the 16gb back to Best Buy today and got my $$ back. Went next door to Office Depot and bought the 32GB version. Thanks to the guys who mentioned the Office Depot sale. I ended up getting the 32gb version for only $20 more! Perfect timing too because the sale ends today. And to think that I stood in the line at Best Buy for 2 1/2 hrs then another 1 1/2 hrs in the check out line only to take it back. LOL I'll check with Office Depot from now on. :good:

If anyone has a sure fire way to root this tablet with JB already on it, I would appreciate a point in the right direction. I'm pretty sure the link I posted above will work, just need confirmation before I void the warranty. Cheers!

Thanks everyone for posting this. I saw this a little bit after I saw tf300t on sale for black friday.

I originally bought the tf101 for $250 and keyboard dock for $100. Black friday last year because the prime was coming out. I have the tf300t now blue and love it. My roomate/friend doesn't really understand tablets or android. He is sort of an isheep. I did not stand in line at black friday I went a little after midnight. No waiting to get into the store. I was nervous and thought they were all sold out but realized they had a seperate area for them. The box reminded me of the one I got with my tf101. The guy told me the model is being discontinued at best buy because the tf300t base model is now 32 gb and that the window 8 vaio tab (w/e it's called) is out now and they have the transformer prime.

I think I remember these as being the earlier models for the tf300t before it really came out. I have the blue one which I love but I picked up on for my roomate with keyboard dock. We were talking earlier and he said how I've finally convinced him that he wants a tablet and one like mine and that he'll save up for one. I'm glad I'll not only be able to make my roomate happy but for him also to experience a tablet for the first time..AND ANDROID. He'll love the keyboard dock too. Always use mine but got the keyboard dock later to appreciate tablet mode and then netbook tablet mode.

I was really glad that best buy did not have this as a doorbuster. There were plenty in stock. The black color is pretty cool too. I did notice that those samsung galaxy tab 2 7.0 tablets sold out like wildfire. I was tempted to get one myself but thought more about the nexus. But decided to get ps vita instead. Really been wanting one and gamestop had it for $200 for assassins creed bundle. As long as this one gets jellybean and hopefully 4.2 then it's perfect :)

OK, went ahead and flashed CWM so I'm good to go. :good:

I'm in the same boat as you, I just got my tablet on black friday haha. Mine came with JB also (4.1.1), and after a bit of searching I am somewhat confused on what the best rooting method is.. do you think you could walk me through the steps you followed to obtain root/ cwm? Thanks! =)

Thanks much! One thing might add to your instructions from what I'd read (older posts so not sure if still needed/recommended): Make sure to download SuperSU, run it once, run OTA root keeper, and then do the OTA JB update. Some had found OTA Rootkeeper appeared to restore root after JB update but truly didn't if SuperSU wasn't installed and run first...

I'd unlocked and rooted my EVO3d, but with it I knew I could get it back to factory if necessary (have everything downloaded/saved in case the need ever arises). At the moment I'm not seeing a use for going the extra step of unlocking especially with it voiding the manufacturer warranty. Did check and appears am running ICS v9.4.3.17 so Debugfs v2.3 should work for me. One question is the order - had read if going to unlock, it needs to be unrooted but will research a bit more unless someone knows. And yes, this post has kind of veered off the OT so next time with a question will start a new thread!

No problem though most of thanks goes to the earlier poster that got me to check out Office Depot. It took about 5 minutes to get inside and have one in hand - only thing is have 14 vs 30 days to return, but don't see myself returning it! Interesting - the model I got has ICS and if reading right, it's an older version (v9.4.3.17). See that as a positive as can use the older tools to root, etc and do the OTA after.

I ended up installing twrp using the fast boot method. As far as rooting, the zip provided in the link I posted earlier didn't work so I just flashed a rooted JB ROM.

Just follow the instructions in the rooting thread and install sdk. It will have adb and fast boot. I recommend using twrp. The UI is much nicer. Also, you will need to change the twrp file to twrp. blob so you can flash it with fast boot. The instructions in the rooting thread for fast boot will work perfectly. You'll just need to change the name of the recovery to twrp.

Sorry it's taken so long to get back on here. I've been playing around with the ROM ParanoidAndroid. It's nice. Not a fast one, only clocks at 1.3ghz but nice nonetheless. If you like hybrids, it's the one for you. :D

Wow, feels weird being a junior member again. I've been over at Android Forums for quite awhile. Heh, I was even a guide for some time until I resigned.
