Of course, this IS a developers forum (at least in premise) so some folks will consider taking it apart. Most folks will either accept the bleed or move on to another device, since the consumer is paying for a finished product- not a ham radio kit ;)

I have not seen enough light bleed to warrant the risks of taking the tablet apart, but only tested for a few hours. If the 300 seems bad, the Excite will turn people's eyes to flames

As per the Mobiletechreview, there is light bleed all the way around the sides of the T305. The units I have seen have the same problem and so does the demo unit the local Stables just set up.

I watched and read those reviews also. I honestly give up. I had some success, but never could get it to what I consider ok. So its going back, but this time Im not sure what to exchange for. I might just get my money back and wait. I still have my galaxy tab 7.7 with the super amoled. I was just hoping for a nice 10" tablet. Got some thinking to do.

As far as a tutorial its honestly not worth it. To get most of the bleed gone I had to have the screws so loose they would almost fall out. And then of course that dramatically takes away from the structural integrity.

What tools did you use to open it? And how did you manage not to break the warranty tapes?
I used several of those thin plastic cards that they give you with screen protector kits. And just pried all around the front bezel until it was all the way off. The only warranty tab I saw was on the battery, and I never had to mess with it.

If light bleed is a concern, the A510 has zero light bleed and reviews point this out as well. The display is very good. The catch though is no keyboard like the Asus tablets. That said, the USB is on the tablet and works with and powers 1TB NTSF drives, plus battery life equals the 300 with its attached keyboard (note: you will lose about 30 minutes if powering a hard drive).

Stay away from the Excite if light bleed is a concern. Also, the display to me did not seem as defined/sharp as the 300 and A510.

Trust me Ive considered all of those. But even thought I dont have one yet, I think Ill be sticking to the 300 because of the keyboard.

Mine has a minimal amount of bleed at the bottom.

Only notice it during boot tho.

Not worth swapping and getting something worse.
The same here.

I had the A510, in fact I exchanged it for the TF300, and to me the screen is much brighter and more sharp on the TF300 than the A510. I have heard the same thing about the Excite too, in fact the bad light bleed I saw on it in reviews is one reason I went with the TF300 over the Excite. The USB on the A510 by the way is not full sized, though they do include an adapter, you can also get one from Asus on Amazon priced around 20 bucks-

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005PAINXQ/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00

I have the keyboard dock coming for it June 4th from B&H Photo, I had one for my TF101 too.

Edit-One other thing about the A510, the right side got VERY warm when doing anything CPU intensive, like games, my TF300 though stays cool. Acer by the way has halted shipments of the A510 until June 11th due to a "faulty internal component"-

http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...confirms-a700-is-on-track-to-ship-by-june-11/

That article says ones already sold passed Acer's QC, but I have to wonder if my heat issues are the faulty component spoken of, which would mean some did get past the QC as others also have had heat issues with it.

In my experience with 3 different TF300s, the TF300s also got pretty warm. The main difference, though, is that the TF300 gets warm just under the camera, which isn't near your hands during normal operation of the tablet, so it won't be a big problem for most people.

The only apparent problem with the A510 was some boxes in North America shipped with a European plug on the power supply. Some reported getting this and Amazon placed the product on hold, since seems some in their batch had the issue. It is now on sale again.

Acer recanted the faulty part post on Facebook and said there is no quality issue. The additional heat on the right is mentioned in the A510 manual as normal. Speaking with Acer tech support, the catch of having the big battery forced heat dissipation to the right, rather than spread out like other tablets with smaller batteries. The iPad 3 has the same issue and their tech points this out as well along with the bigger gpu to push the high res display in the iPad 3.

I use a case, so do not feel the extra heat on the right and appreciate the very long battery life. I still think the location of the USB post sucks and the full USB should have been left on the device. Still, better to have it than not and it does trickle charge.

Added:

Funny how display perspective is so subjective. I find the 300 and A510 to have more definition than the Excite. The one place the 300 wins is angles, but I will not be viewing in very
wide angles anyway. Zero light bleed and long battery life is nice. Then again, so would a keyboard attachment.... Must admit that if I did not have a nice laptop and only had one portable device, I would probably get the 300 so could get the keyboard.

Guide

I did have huge light bleed on my 1st tf300. I had the docking and tablet combo. I went to Best buy and they exchanged only the tablet. My dock is working and I really like the feel of it.

I had one dead pixel also, but it was smaller than a normal pixel. The guy at Best Buy told me that it was a screen default.

I now have a new tf300 tablet and there is less light bleed but there is still some... Less than the 1st one : i could see it on the home button even with moderate light in the room.

I wish you could give us a complete step by step guide to remove the screen without voiding the warranty.

Thanks!

Without going into a long story you're better off if you just leave it alone. I had a piece of hair stuck under the screen and I tried to get it out and ended up breaking it. I regret taking it apart and wish I would've just left it alone I ended up buying another one. I sent the broken one into Asus and I'm waiting for them to give me a quote on fixing it. So take it from experience you're better off just leaving it alone.
