The 7 made me give up the phone!

Always using my n7 nowadays. I did WiFi tether it to my one x the other day and it destroyed my one x battery in about 10 hours. But I find that Bluetooth tethering drops out after a while.

Also, tablet talk is great

I tether to my HOX all the time at the moment, it's great when the HOX actually has a stable connection. HOX has a a terrible arial.
At work we do not allow a public Wifi access to our network, but having installed HTC sync to the desktop I can connect the HOX to USB and share the internet connection. Turn on the Hotspot and now your N7 connects to your hotspot and you have internet.

This coming weekend I'm planning to revive my old Desire and will use that as my 3G tether device inplace of the HOX (plan to sell) until I can find a suitable non-smart phone to replace it (needs to be small, good 3G+ connection, and support being a hotspot).

I'm not convinced I'll bother with a smart phone as long as I have a 7" tablet. I can fit the device in my pocket (coat and my current work trousers, and I'm not even fat with giant pockets!) and looking at maybe using a VOIP replacement for my actual phone number (skype number for example)

Just out of interest, does anyone use a bluetooth or earphones that have a mic built in and can be used in skype on their N7? Any details/reviews please?

I've tried Tablet Talk and it didn't always work for me. I've since moved on to DeskSMS and TabletSMS and could not be happier. It works all the time, the UI is very nice and the devices do not have to be "connected" to each other in any way.
Thanked! DeskSMS looks awesome solution to adding SMS capability the Nexus 7. Don't even need to be directly tethered to the phone to send SMS. Very useful.

I got my N7 yesterday and already started using it in place of my phone, at home anyways. I use a free SIP carrier & Google Voice so its easy to switch back and forth. What a difference from a phone though...I didn't think 3 extra inches of screen space would make such a difference. Love it.

I only use my mobile for WhatsApp, after buying my nexus 7.
However, it's too big to put in my pocket so I use my mobile outside my house.

It's a bit ridiculous to try to use any tablet to replace a phone... Phones fit in pockets. Mine is always with me. When I need something basic with a bigger screen, I take the N7 along. When I need more, I take my 10.1" tablet. Very often I take no tablet. That's why I have a smart phone in the first place. It does all a tablet does in a small size.

...besides, until there's free wifi everywhere (fat chance, no free lunches, folks), you can never rely on the N7 as your only device.

Same here. Just picked up my Nexus 7 this past Thursday and I've rarely put it down since then. My Galaxy S II lasted well over 30 hours this weekend since it was only used for texting and well....talking :D

I like your avatar (was such an epic fight between goku and pikkon :D Im such a nerd)

anyways, this thread is a great point. However; I've been trying to play around with my phone for a while to get it on a good battery saving/performance rom/kernel combo, so ive been using my phone just as much as the nexus 7 lol. but if it werent for the tablet, I would have no use for games anymore. I hardly ever use my phone for games at all since i got the n7
