Which STOCK carrier 4.1.1 ROM has the least amount of carrier bloatware? I want to move from the stock AT&T on my i747 since AT&T isn't even my official carrier.

I would suggest in that case that you just flash your carriers version 4.1.1 then just root and use titanium backup to freeze what you dont want on there anymore

Each time I do this, for some reason, Samsung Kies stops working (even though I don't freeze it).
I need Kies, as I'm a Mac user and still need MTP access. Android File Transfer doesn't seem to work for me.

Anyone hear anything about a 4.1.2 or 4.2 update for the Galaxy S III yet? AT&T is updating the Note 10.1 and Galaxy Rugby Pro to 4.1.2 now.

Gosh, I need to close this thread! :p

Anyways, about 4.1.2, I'll repeat what I said in another thread:

Don't get your hopes up: some of the cool stuff in the 4.1.2 update, we already have in our version of 4.1.1 (like Smart Rotation).

TBH, I think we're more likely to get a 4.2.1 or higher update in a few months than a odd 4.1.2 update, because of that.

The Galaxy Note 10.1 and Galaxy Rugby Pro never had a 4.1.1 update (this is their Jelly Bean release). AT&T will probably release 4.2.1+ for us. Why else would they have taken the time to incorporate 4.1.2 features in 4.1.1?

I've looked at the "premium suite" features...never seen so many gimmicks called "premium"or, heck, "features!" Photosphere and updated notification are the only things I want (want being used very loosely) and those are Google features, anyways.

Depending on Google's I/O 2013, we may just get Key Lime Pie (5.0) in the summer, and skip all the ones in between.

But, be happy...you own one of the, if not the, most popular phones ever released. Samsung will update or tarnish their great momentum with the Galaxy series.

I just wish Samsung would come out and say that: we will honor our contract in the Google Update Alliance and update you for 18 months (basically, start of 2014).

Yeah, I think you're right - 4.2.x would be better as the next update. And this thread should probably be closed too. T'm looking forward to the updated notifications too, and the multi app windows capability! Thanks!

Stuck!

Same here in addition to bad battery life.

Rooted
Titanium backup
Kies update to JB
Factory reset
Re-root & CWM
TiBu restore (apps & data)
Crap stability & battery

May wipe it again and try running unrooted and without a restore for a bit. As it is, I'm getting less than 6 hours of battery life. Killing "Media" helps a bit.

Having these same issues (FCs, lockups, reboots, and poor battery life) on stock JB...rooted or unrooted....even with BlackJelly JB version. CM10.1 also acts this way.

I have done full wipes / factory resets. Cleared caches, etc. Seems no version of JB will work on my phone but stock ICS works great. Even did a warranty replacement and the new phone does the same thing.

i haven't tried the stock JB fw yet. I've been bouncing around roms. Most recently the Serenity 1.2 mod. But i've been contemplating go back to stock FW. Any reason i should or should i just stick with custom. ? Any opinion is welcomed.

I was thinking of trying the same thing tonight. I'm rooted but stock. Is the correct order: update, triangle away then stock recovery? I'll read up on triangle away later. I'd it a big deal or pretty straight forward?

I used the "TeamEpic-Root-From-Recovery-v5" method to root my ICS AT&T S3. My device status showed "modified".

Checked OTA yesterday, said an update was available so I figured Id give it a shot (after I did a nandroid).

It installed 4.1.1 LK3 on my device and prompted when finished if I wanted to keep CWM or let it flash stock recovery (which I chose to keep CWM), as well as if I wanted to re-inject root (which I did).

The Samsung keyboard was laggy, but I just put Jelly Bean keyboard on it and it is good to go. Everything else is going good and fully functional, device status still shows "modified". Battery seems fine (so far, not really long enough to tell yet).

Just figured I'd throw it out there...

New on XDA and on Android

Hi people. I'm new in this forum, despite I read it since a long ago. I am Argentinian, working for this winter season in US. I have bought an AT&T Samsung Galaxy S III, and today I discovered that I can update the Android version, a few days ago there was no OTA update, but today it was available. Actually I have 4.0.4 .

1) What do I need to do before updating? Do I have to backup sdcard stuff, like pics, music, movies?

I have my S III rooted and with TRWP Recovery, and I also have unlocked it following a weird method (http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?p=34661189#post34661189).

2. If I update it, will I lose the unlock?

Thank you very much, I hope you can help me.

Best regards,

Agustin

Well, I tried to update OTA. Downloaded the 3xx MB file, and then proceed to update. My S III restarted, but get on the custom recovery, and nothing happened. I restarted it and it said update failed.. What is wrong?

Finally, I could updated via Odin using the stock ROM. Now I'm in 4.1.1

4.1.1 is out and, contrary to what Samsung said, the update is available on Kies and OTA! Yes, OTA is here!

Congrats to Corey_r and longcat14 for winning the pool. No one else even had a chance, haha. :)

To enter and/or view the Release Date Pool, check the 2nd post.

"One thread to rule them all..."

Instructions: Post all yo rumors, rants, and revelations about the upcoming AT&T Jelly Bean update here.

Official release date from Samsung: "Coming Soon!"
    (last checked on 11/30; source)

Official release date from AT&T: "...very near future."
(last checked on 11/30; source; thanks, Randun)

Anonymous Source: Samsung's AT&T GS3 Jelly Bean User Trials started in May and have been completed; we're just waiting on AT&T. The ROM should be in its final stages of testing soon.

Jelly Bean Version: Most likely 4.1 Before 11/28, chatter from multiple official AT&T sources stated 4.2 (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) However, then AT&T quietly released the above Support Article, which stated 4.1.The Support Article is the most concrete evidence we have, so it will probably be Jelly Bean 4.1. :)

    Confirmed Jelly Bean TouchWiz features:

    Camera
    • New camera/camcorder filters: warm vintage, cold vintage, black and white, sepia, color highlights(blue, green, red/yellow), and many more.
    • Pause and resume recording
    • Low light mode (uses HDR)
    Phone-wide
    • Pop Up Play can be resized and paused
    • Introduction of Easy Mode: large Easy widgets (for first-time smartphone users)
    • Introduction of Blocking Mode: disable incoming calls, notifications, alarms, and LED indicators for a designated period of time
    • Introduction of Swype® Keyboard (bundled)
    • AllShare® Cast Wireless Hub support
    • NFC One Touch Pairing Support: pair a supported Bluetooth device via NFC

Complete noob.. I finally got kies to connect to my phone, but now it keeps asking me upgrade Kies to the latest version and then upgrade firmware. Once I click the Update Kies button right next to it, it immediately says the latest version is installed. After I do this, it doesnt seem anything has changed and it tells me the current firmware version is android 4.0.4. Anyone else having this issue? Is there a different way for me to update since ive never rooted or messed with stock settings? thanks

So i was able to update my rooted stock ICS phone to the JB but i lost root. Im tempted to try rooting again via odin but worried of messing up my phone.

Could flash stock rooted image here http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1739426

Maybe if I shove a actual jellybean in my usb port my phone will update itself.

This seems to be a thread for ranting and wild speculation than what the OP has intended. Maybe we should get back on topic before a mod is needed...

Idk why you guys are hassling ATT about the release date. The only people who would know best would be the programmers at Samsung...Just my two cents

Yeah, but unfortunately, we're under a contract to pay AT&T for service. They aren't under a contract to provide updates to our phones unless they are essential to maintaining daily function of the device. This is why carriers shouldn't be determining if/when android updates are released. There is no value added to any tweaks that AT&T makes on the devices.
