Updates and SIM

Does anyone know, with experience, if an ACTIVATED AT&T SIM is required to get updates on the LG G3.? I'm on Cricket, an AT&T company, and don't seem to be getting any. I found multiple questions similar to this but no real answers. I have an un-activated ATT&T SIM and I am willing to go the gophone route IF some one can verify that it will work. I don't wish to flash any ROMs.

I have been trying to find the recovery.img file for lollipop 20f and can't find it anywhere. So, is it the same recovery.img that 10d uses?

Have anyone test the stability temperature for D850? Because it give me 90°C CPU Temp, is it normal?
What apps do you use to check temperature and do the stability test? I used CPUTemp and StabilityTest v2.7.
Also the Antutu stability test reboots my phone, happend to anyone?

You need an ATT contract sim. So if you can borrow a friends sim card. I'm with cricket also and had tried the go phone route and it doesn't work. Also make sure your not rooted because my buddy forgot to unroot before att update and his phone became a very expensive dust collector.

OK, here is what I did:
5.01 20F (rooted and custom Recovery) on Cricket = no updates
Back to stock 4.4.2 10D (no root or custom Recovery) on Cricket = no updates
On un-activated AT&T SIM = no updates
GoPhone activated = got 3 updates in 1 hour (all that AT&T has) now at 5.01 20R with 20Q in-between.

I bought a cheap GoPhone SIM on EBay and used the $2 a day plan. The $2 a day plan requires a minimum of $10 deposit with no activation fee if done online. So my investment was about $15. My Motorola X 2014 on Cricket gets all the updates but probably directly from Motorola.

I have no idea why GoPhone works but an AT&T company like Cricket, who claims they do provided updates, won't work.

I recently bought an LG G3 D850 and was wondering if it's possible to upgrade to 5.1 and if not what ROMs are recommended. Sorry if it's the wrong place to ask this.

If your wanting a stock rom that keeps the lg feel go with cloudy g3. The continuation rom is TiX. If your wanting to go to 5.1 you'll have to go to an aosp rom but you'll lose the lg camera.

Hey guys, rooted H815 LG G4 owner here but picked up a LG G3 D850 for my GF and want to unlock/root it with latest stock image.

Is this the thread I should be using? [ROM][STOCK][BUMP'd] LG D850 20F Lollipop 5.0.1 (+ extras)

Or is this the one? [ROM][Stock][Rooted] D850 20f Stock ROM Debloated

Just want the absolute latest image for her phone so I can clean it up, etc. before giving it to her.
You will find that the preferred modified stock ROM will vary. If you just want to strictly debloat, then you can also root, uninstall apps you don't want, freeze those you aren't sure of and move forward.

I ended up using Prime's ROM and rooting it and then freezing crap she won't need with ROM Toolbox. Just, basically, wasn't sure what the 'latest' stock ROM was since I've been on the G4 since the summer.

Thanks.

I'm on D85021R version LRX21Y build of stock AT&T rom, rooted with xposed, so there is a newer version that can be rooted, but I don't think theres a newer version that can just be flashed, you'll have to go through the update process then root and do what ever other customizations you want. I'm not sure but I've read the AT&T MM 6.0 is either out our coming soon but seems it may not be rootable (yet).

Flashed v10f and it worked but since then network and WiFi not working. Bluetooth works fine.

Yea, the stock rom is finicky. I backed mine up, and when i changed roms and tried to restore stock, it failed a security check at boot and wouldnt finish booting. Im now on cloudyG3.

Since your problem has hardware involved, it might be a kernal problem. Try flashing the corresponding stock kernal and see if that fixes it.

If you want TWRP just downgrade aboot.img and laf.img to KK.. then BUMP'd TWRP will work. Must be rooted to be able to flash TWRP obviously. If not already rooted -- Root with THIS METHOD HERE.

If rooted and on stock 20F Lollipop follow #1
If already TWRP'd/BUMP'd on KitKat (or using AOSP) and want to manually update to rooted stock 20F follow #2

    #1
Download D850 TWRP HERE and rename to twrp.img. download stock KK aboot and laf images HERE. Stick all 3 on root of internal sdcard. You'll also have to flash a patched stock 20F boot.img so that the Lollipop system still boots when using the downgraded aboot.img/laf.img. You can download the patched boot.img HERE. Stick it in the root of your internal sdcard.
Now issue the following commands with adb shell. If using terminal app on phone do not use the adb shell command:
    Code:
    [SIZE="2"]adb shell
    su
    md5 /sdcard/aboot.img (confirm md5 = 348064a6d4f8d5b7d3eeec79d86de5bd before proceeding)
    dd if=/sdcard/aboot.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/aboot
    dd if=/sdcard/laf.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/laf
    dd if=/sdcard/twrp.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery
    dd if=/sdcard/patched-20f-boot.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/boot[/SIZE]
You are finished and can now reboot back into the rom.

#2 (edit/update: see my thread HERE for TWRP-flashable stock 20F)
If already TWRP'd/BUMP'd and you want to upgrade manually to 20F Lollipop... download the patched boot.img HERE and stick it on the root of your internal sdcard.. along with the 20F modem.img and system.img @timmytim shared a few posts up. You may or may not have to "factory reset" in TWRP. YMMV.
[If flashing system.img you must be in TWRP, not the rom, while issuing these commands]
[May need the "Koush Universal ADB" drivers to get ADB goin' in TWRP]
    Code:
    [SIZE="2"]adb shell
    su
    dd if=/sdcard/patched-20f-boot.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/boot
    dd if=/sdcard/modem.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/modem
    dd if=/sdcard/system.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/system[/SIZE]

If flashing 20F system via this method you will also need to root since the system.img is stock. Download SuperSU zip from Chainfire HERE and flash the zip in TWRP AFTER flashing the system.img. You are finished and can now reboot back into the rom.

I've seen Liquid Smooth mentioned in other threads but don't think it has been here.
@CPA Poke has made quite a few builds I believe for different devices as well and that ROM would be awesome on the G3 now that were unlocked and since it's another CM based ROM definitely an option.
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2630085

Another one he is associated with is Dirty Unicorns : http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...m-dirty-unicorns-4-4-2-hammerhead-05-t2588152

There are obviously more people than Poke involved with these ROMs so maybe that could be an option for one of those devs to build for our G3s as well!

So.... sorry for the delay, got super busy at work... I hate it when our print servers go down. Also, I'm having a lot of trouble extracting the blob becuase, well it's a blob and not an image. I'll think of something.

    @timmytim
After some preliminary testing, Im 110% sure I can obtain root now, and way easier than people are thinking. I just need to figure out how to update my 10D to 10F then to 5.0 (being on cricket has its drawbacks).
Hop on IRC at some point tomorrow and we'll get some things tested.
