New initiative from Samsung on S9 with Experience 9.0 (Oreo). You can no longer choose a dedicated ringtone for T9 messages (SMS) or link it to one of your contacts. This feature has been removed in the new design Experience 9.0, says Samsung's Community Manager. Quite annoying if you used the feature before and it had its place. Especially if you do not want to use third party apps 
Well, if Samsung really listens to the many complaints posted in their community and returns with an improvement, it remains to be seen. Meanwhile, I use the app, Android Messages and it seems pretty alright.
