Hey guys I didn't see a thread for MicroSD discussion so thought I would start one. It would be good to have thoughts and opinions on the best price/performance cards for the S7, with a view to maximum storage balanced by good read/write speeds for UHD recording etc.

----------------------------------------------

128GB:

For 128GB cards, there are some fast options available:

200GB:

From what I have seen, 200GB cards are primarily from SanDisk and slower at 15MB/S actual write speed (see some user reviews in the Amazon link):

----------------------------------------------

The question is, will the 200GB provide enough performance for seamless media and app usage, and UHD video recording, or is it worth going with the 25%+ faster 128GB cards to give an extra boost in write speed? :)

Bestbuy, b&h, samsung US all had the samsung pro+ 128gb for $89. Had to go with the best tested card for my 4k content. Almost got the evo 128 but you know you get what you pay for sometimes. Way i see it, dont put slow **** in a fast phone.

I have a 64gb evo+ and havent noticed any slowness, but I also havent recorded any 4k video. I do have a 65gb Pro+ on order from samsung (backordered from when they were selling for 30 bucks the other day) to upgrade it though.

I thought about snagging one of the larger 128's but honestly I dont think I will fill up the 64 before my next phone & the next "fastest" card is out so I stuck to the 64gb for now.

I actually found that today (Samsung Pro+ 128GB) after doing some Googling and then promptly ordered it... it really looks like the best option and the price is decent. :)

Does the Sandisk Ultra 128GB MicroSDXC handle 4K video ok? I'm looking to buy one at a really good price at the moment, but wanted to double check if anyone has had any issues with using this card for recording 4K. Cheers!

I posted on the edge thread, but I have the 128 evo+ and it works fine even on 4K videos. Everyone is so amped up on speed. the bit-rate is fixed and you only need 10MB/s write if that. Mine is at 19MB/s.. The other big reason is for burst shots, but that is forced onto he internal memory so you dont need to worry about that.

So all thats left is the time it takes to tx files between your pc and phone. Does it take 3 minutes or 6.. haha

The read speed between the EVO+ and the PRO+ arent that different. Its the write speed that has the PRO+ being that much better.

And the EVO+ write speed is just a hair behind what is supposed to be there for 4k video so it doesn't surprise me at all that it works.

"4K videos are recorded with a bitrate of 48Mbps, 1080p/60fps are 28Mbps, while regular speed 1080p/30fps get 17Mbps."

48Mb/s= about 6MB/s

evo+ will write at 18-21 MB/s.. more then enough. I would think anymore then 10MB/s would be fine.
Don't buy Samsung SD Cards as reported in this thread(http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/help/galaxy-s7-slow-to-wake-t3326304). Most Galaxy S7 owners around the world have either got a Evo+ 64GB or 128GB. It's been reported that only Samsung SD Cards cause waking delay as in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXWhSjNDATA

Card is a 64gb Samsung Pro+ (paid $39, best buy price match microcenter)
wifi, bluetooth, connected, no tweaks or anything, just ran as i use it.

A1 bench score is 61MB/s & 45MB/s I/O. using the accurate benchmark
score is 7.84MB/s & 1.42MB/s I/O. using the random i/o benchmark
score is 65.47MB/s & 53.90MB/s I/O. using the quick benchmark

CrystalDiskMark 3.0.4 (C) 2007-2015 hiyohiyo

Sequential Write : 86.402 MB/s
Random Read 512KB : 84.354 MB/s
Random Write 512KB : 78.683 MB/s
Random Read 4KB (QD=1) : 8.644 MB/s [ 2110.5 IOPS]

Hmm. I wonder why both Evo+ and Pro+ get only about 60mb read speed with A1 in S7 and write speed seems to be caped also to 45 ...
Basicly no point to buy Pro or Pro+ at all.
