So charging the phone whilst using Google maps and taking a call at the same time craps out the G4. I had a reboot and continuous temp warnings, not really impressed, my N6 got hot but nothing like the G4.

The problem is not that G4 gets too hot. it's that LG was too skeptical about S808 that made the phone unusable (in some instances) by forcing it to shut down.

The phone seemed to gets very hot easily, but those temperature apps only show 40 degree Celsius.

Not sure whether g4 is so good at disappating heat or app is wrong

I've noticed that phone is getting hot when charging even if the phone is in standby. I'm getting around 40-44c.
40-44?? i get 22-29, depends on how long it been idle / standby & how cold / hot my room is, but yea, never over 34 in standby

My H815 only gets hot when charging (never checked the temp with an app)
I don't play games on it, but I keep the wifi, data connection, GPS, BT on at the same time quite a lot, but it never gets hot (barely warm)

I too have had issues with the device getting very hot on the top half of the screen. Tried a couple of factory resets but it didn't help. Even reset one more time and kept it stock after a few hours same problem. Took it to the AT&T store and of course it was behaving fine. Luckily the rep knew me and accepted I knew what I was talking about. Swapping mine for one first thing this morning when their new shipment comes in. Will update if issue persists or not.

Wish I would have done it 3 days ago. Might have been snagged another battery and leather case lol.

Sorry. Just realized I never posted an update. After receiving the replacement phone, the problem of constant, extreme overheating of the top half of screen has gone away.

Phone stills gets a little warm sometimes but no worse or more often than any other phone I've owned.

My G4 would overheat when taking anything longer than 1 minute of 4K video, it would give me the warning that the phone was going to be shut down due to temperature, but I didn't take much video, so I thought nothing of it. Then yesterday the phone was extremely hot (top half, front and back) using only GPS navigation and playing music so I put it in front of the AC vent which cooled it down a little, then it rebooted on its own. Once it came up it was stuck in a boot loop showing the LG logo and then blank screen and back to LG logo. I tried the factory reset, but the phone flashes "Secure Boot Error 1003" at the top left of the screen when trying to flash to defaults.

I took it to T-Mobile and they are sending me a new phone today, I hope it was just that hardware, but luckily we have a removable SD card in the G4 and my photos are all there (and in the cloud).

FIXED!!!!! ROOT and CHANGE THE GOVERNOR

FIXED!!!!! I just want to share my experience with my H818P regarding heat. I was almost buying a new phone after suffering many consecutive days with the famous boot loop, which drove me crazy, but then I decided to take a final different action. I downgraded Android 6.0 to 5.0 just to root it (unfortunately there's no root for marshmallow for H818P - dual sim) and used SETCPU app to ###CHANGE THE GOVERNOR### based on temperature. So, when the CPU temp is below 40C, I've set to standard interactive governor. Between 40C and 50C, I set to ondemand and above 50C, I set to powersave. One week without boots, and more than that, one week without heat problems.

Dear alangt,

My phone LG H818P is overheating and draining battery. it is draining in standby as well. It is giving 12 to 14 hrs backup with some voice calls. I downgraded to Lollipop but could get the same performance. I am not facing power off due to high temperture nor reboots issues. Please suggest me should i go with the same procedure as you did to fix this.

why do you even think about it ?
snapdragon 808 can't overheat. its one of the coolest cpu out there.
when you say overheating , what temp are you talking about ? 65 C ?
thats normal, thats not even hot. a cpu can go up to 90 C and at around 90+ it start becoming a hot sausage until it goes dead.
and if your h818 temp goes up easier is because of the lame LG stock rom that has a bug that doesn't let the cpu rest. if you search in xda or in google or use logcat you will understand what i mean.
So anyway, forget the heat problem with this cpu.

What about battery drain? Is heating reason of battery drain? Should i root it and install a custom rom?
Heating isn't a problem for battery drain, but
If the CPU doesn't rest like it should, it has a load, you have battery drain and heat. All caused from the same problem.
At least for the heat don't worry, this is a great CPU. But as for battery drain.... Be calm and wait for the root or downgrade to LP which is not recommended.
