hello,

I'll be honest i didn't search the thread for a similar post, so i apologize in advance.

I've recently purchased a international version of the Galaxy s7, the Exynos variant. It's a awesome device. However, I am planning to purchase a LG G5 as well. I've read some post on some of the S7 forums and it seems that the ATT version SD820 variant has been very hit or miss on performance, battery management and also overheating is an issue.

With both device having the SD 820, is there a possibility the the G5 will have similar issues??
The performance on the G5 is very good and thermal management seems to be very good according to GSMArena (better than S7, probably due to the all-metal build which dissipates heat), but the battery life really sucks. The Exynos S7 will basically achieve 50% more battery life.

I will never understand XDA Forums. People with different manufacturers phone hang out in a area for a phone they don't have so they can slag it off. I'm in the LG area because I want one, but I feel I should be in the Samsung section moaning how much I hate them since I don't have one.

"I have X, had a Y hated it so Z must be crap!"

I agree, I'm here because I'll probably buy a g5 not for argumenting with other people about other devices, and I don't go in other xda forum to criticize other devices.
Bah, just look to the Android police review, probably one of the worst review I ever read.

People saying they wont buy an LG again because of the screen have probably in-directly bought an LG screen anyway.

They are generally very good for Screens, used in the top LCD TVs and LCD phones.

I personally will never buy AMOLED, so the only choices I have are with LCD, which a lot of the time come with an LG screen anyway.

There are manufacturing problems with all products. Even a 99.9% success rate on production means that 1 in 1000 screens/phones will have an issue. You build 1 million phones, that means 1000 will have issues - which is why we have warranties, return procedures, etc.

I'm not concerned about this light bleed issue. It's only noticed when you have the brightness turned up to 100% and I never run my display that bright. I run my G3 at about 42%.

I am stopping at T-Mobile at lunch today to pick one up. Already ordered a glass screen protector, carbon fiber skin and some spare type-c cables so I am committed.

Let me explain my case: I had a G2 which I really liked, I really wanted the G5 (but decided against it and got an S7 Edge). But I am still keeping an eye on this forum, because maybe some updates may change things like maximum brightness, color temperature or improve battery life, or maybe LG will release an extended battery (maybe increasing the phone length a bit) and then the G5 will become a possibility again.

Or,or,or... Maybe we could just root and ROM the g5 and achieve all of that if the correct variant is bought. Rather than literally being stuck with an s7.
Guaranteed, knowing Samsung, there software is going to kill any optimization they have achieved, when they release future updates. Not too mention Samsung devices are locked down like fort knox

Even though I really don't like flashing phones (too time consuming for minimal to no benefits) what I know is that my S7 Edge (international version) has an unlocked bootloader, has already been rooted and can be flashed with custom ROMs. But to be honest I can't see any benefit in this. Battery life should be good with the stock firmware.

I'm waiting to see if any of them have an unlocked bootloader and don't prevent you flashing your own rom's to it, or if someone bypasses it.
If I can't flash my own rom, I might go with an Exynos S7 instead.

Don't upgrade. The V10 has manual video controls. The G5 doesn't. The V10 has the sabre dac built in

I would suggest that the UX 4.0 theme is a good temp solution, but LG will release an update later this month and it will include a third option that will have "Home w/app drawer"
and add another 30 days so people don't get their hopes up. Even if it's done soon it would still have to pass through carrier. So May.
