Hi guys. About a year and a half ago, this community did something amazing. I had an engineering version of the ativ S, and this community put together the money to buy me a new one, while i sent the one in my possession to a developer here to XDA. From that day, we never heard back. Do we have any news/breakthrough or any kind of report on the work heathcliff is doing?

I know Heathcliff74 has managed to fully root his phones (both Ativ and Lumia, I think), but I think he's still working on a way to install the hack on non-engineering phones / without using JTAG. I haven't asked for a progress report recently; we don't usually jostle each other that way when working on something.

GoodDayToDie,

The new Windows Insider app might be the key for non-JTAG hacking :) I've successfully injected some registry keys already, and am working on setting the interop caps to third party (maybe even ALL of them? Who knows...).

There is work being done behind the scenes all the time. Usually nothing is released uncomplete though.

I have been working very hard. And I have made progress. In fact, I've been working for almost two years on this. I cannot tell any details right now. I can only tell that I am working very hard on a release right now. Please don't ask for ETA's. You will know when it is ready.

I am not asking for ETA; but i dont understand the secrecy. Would not find it more helpful to share your findings as you make them so that you might use the mighty insight and peer-review of this community? also, at least say" hey i'm working on this thing which i think it's cool" would had been sufficed. Also soon all your finding are going to be meaningless, since w10 is going to be out there and a lot of your bug/entry point might be closed at that point; and the device does not update to a newer version, so it will mean 0 usefulness out of what we set to do 2 years ago.

The problem is that MS would know instantly what is being done and how to patch stuff. Years of hacking could become useless if something gets patched just because something was written here. About WP10, we'll see and hope for the best (for us on this forum) :p

First of all, I'm not working alone. There are a bunch of people I exchange ideas with. But that is a bit more private than this forum. To make a fully working hack, we need a complete chain of hacks to get there. And if these hacks are discussed, the vulnerabilities would be fixed, before we can complete the chain and that would make the research meaningless.

In the WP7 era, I created a lot of hacks. At that time I was very active on XDA and twitter. Because I also wanted to give proper support on those hacks. Currently I have no release ready for WP8 (or WP10). So, why should I write about partial, possible hacks here? It would only give people the impression that I am here to collect "Thanks" and getting attention or ego-boost or something. And people would be asking when something is ready, which is impossible to predict. I have literally dozens of possible hacks that turned out to be dead-ends. That would only have resulted in disappointment and disbelieve. I have done a lot of research now. And it paid off. I'm working on an implementation now. But it is quite complex, so it will take a bit of time. Have patience.

Don't worry about Windows 10 for Phones. My work will still be valuable. ;)

@sireangelus, please try to understand the reason for the secrecy. All that matters at this point is that work is in progress and every hack in progress doesn't need to be public knowledge due to the fact that it would be a big blow if they were patched. Heathcliff74 is right on this one. :)
