ok, so I ordered the verizon xoom @ $199 special. I have a droid 3, which I rooted and am very happy with. My question is according to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1242241 all apps and data will be erased. I can accept that, but what is in the custom rom? Will I have basic apps like stock without the bloatware?

And, is my 4g going to work with this ROM or not? Some say yes, others have issues...or so it appears. I don't want a brick, or even 1/2 what i am paying for. I want / need root, but i also want my tablet to function correctly.

Thanks in advance.
There are no customs rooms that work with the 4G Xoom, but you can flash the Tiamat Odachi kernel which specifically works with the 4G. It's a great kernel. You could also try the Rogue Rana kernel as well. Both support overclocking and have some additional nice features. There won't be any custom 4G Rom until Ice Cream Sandwich/Android 4.0 is ported.

I have a strange issue where some files from my sd card/internal memory dont show on my pc. When i reboot the xoom and then replug it back into the computer they show. I have reflashed the latest rom many times yet i still get the same issue. How would i fix this?

Ok, understood. I am not really looking for a custom ROM at the moment, but just to root my xoom. I am looking at the universal xoom root (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1242241) as well as one that may or may not break 4g (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1242524). Any ideas? I just want to push su onto the device basically and have complete control over the device. I customize the ROM for myself from there.

[edit] So I get it now, in the Universal Root for Xoom in the first link I posted, it is doing exactly what I want, correct? It's just copying CWM to boot recovery and from there I will just push the SuperUser.apk and su files with the zip file. Please correct me if I am wrong. [/edit]
Thanks again.

Yes,the Universal Xoom Root zip file is the one you want.
Here is a basic guide with links to most of the files and drivers you might need if you dont have adb set up (but you sound like you do) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1249798

The universal root method will not harm your 4g, if done right... just take your time and be patient, and if you run into a problem the folks here and at xoomforums are great about helping out. Once rooted,I highly recommend the Rana kernel from Team Rogue. My xoom is faster and wifi and cellular connectivity are more stable than ever (much better than out of the box), and the battery life on this kernel has me back to (if not better than) pre-4g upgrade. Good luck!

Thanks everyone. I'll be rooting shortly. On my way home now. My new xoom is awaiting.

Now I've tested various things to get all missing apps in market (f.e. the app "bunny shooter free" and "klondike solitaire" are missing in market on moray (2.2.1) / german Xoom 3g) - but I havn't found a way yet:

1. Wipe everything > made the Google-Account-Initialisation of the moray rom > restore of last moray-nandroid = apps are missing in the marked

2. Wipe everything > restore nandroid of stock 3.1-rom > wipe everything again > made the Google-Account-Initialisation of the stock-rom = app are in in the market (!) > restore of last moray-nandroid = apps are missing in the market (tested with an without wiping everything after moray-retore)

3. Restore moray-nandroid > wipe everything > copy the build.prop of the stock 3.1 to system = xoom hangs on bootscreen (on the moray-water-bootscreen)

Conclusion:
It's not the Google-Account-Initialisation :-( It could work with the correct build.prop or market version (1.0.28 and 3.1.6 are not working/showing all apps)...
When he mentions Android, he mentions the backup that I made on the first attempt to install the morey rom, right?

I'm having a lot of troubles, including the market.
The main problem I'm having is with games. Most of gamelofts games does not even open. Shadowgun, from madfingers also have issues. I think I will downgrade to my stock.

I made a backup. Should I try or download another one?

Thanks for the attention.

If you mean xoom with 4g, there are no custom roms out yet which are fully compatible, not until it can be ported to 4.0 ics, according to okantomi. I customize my rom after rooting by using the sdk and vms to develop. I would go back to stock if you're having issues.

My xoom is wifi only.

I have a few issues and I just wanted to know if they are normal issues, common.
The stock rom is **** no way I could use that.

But man, I expected more from moray's rom. The performance is almost the same for me, plus a lot of games just don't work, plus downloads from host just give me some useless 33.5kb files... if aome one can help, are least telling me what to do, could be great.

Btw, man, thanks for your help.
