Uhh...is Tegra 3 suppose to be impressive? I'm not kept up on all-things Nvidia.

It's the fastest and most graphically impressive processor for Android currently, tegra is also on desktop computers, which shows the caliber of the processor

I backed it up on Kickstarter but now I'm having second thougts.
Although it looks like a great project, we don't have any guarantees that developers will look seriously at the platform. Another problem is that the console is based on Android 4.0, so it's more like Kindle Fire: you don't even know that Android is there. Furthermore, you probably won't be able to use the apps and games you bought on the Play Store. $100 is quite cheap but with that money can I buy a docking station, a MHL cable and a controller and do the same on my One X.

But on the flip the developers of the project themselves have stated that the system software and hardware is open source and hackable, so in a matter of days, we could have full market access and hell even custom roms with the way this community is.!

You're totally right. The only things I think are: "is this device any different than the vast majority of devices out there?" and "won't this device be just one more vaporware project?". This are the $99 questions.
Think about it, I can give sprint $200 for the EVO 4G LTE, plus pay $8 a month for insurance because I may haphazardly break my phone to the point of no return and need it to be replaced because sprint doesn't support root-related actions even tho HTC kind of does, be stuck with it for two years, have to pay another $10 for HDMI out and only have all of 3 hours of play because HDMI uses the charger port, or I can pay $100 for ALL of that plus unlimited play and hacking and modding allowed and provided by the developers. I can take 2 years of the money I gave to sprint and time I gave to them, and buy 3 of these lmao

So they said on their site, and additional $20 dollar (USD) should be added for over shipping outside of the US of A. Just hope they stand true to their word.
They are funded up to $4.95 Mill (USD) so they better not let the international community down. That would be a sad mistake.

My biggest fear about the international shipping is not shipping itself but the functionality (or lack of) outside the USA. This device sounds better for hacking than for its intended use.

To me it sounds perfect for playing emulated games on things like mame with a controller.
I think most people backing this seem to fall in two camps, one expect a super high quality xbox type console with aaa titles like cod, the other expect a decent hackable multifunction system.
I think there is a market for a low price console, not sure about not including an sd card slot as that restricts users to internal memory only, but it is a bold move to bring out a low cost console that uses digital downloads rather than physical (optical) media and they may well succeed

sure, its a great idea and of course im gonna buy one of these, but you cant say that it is much cheaper then a ps3
because, look back in end of 2010, desire hd was release (acualy i got one of these) and know, shadowguns isnt running so good on my phone that i would like to.
and this is the problem, phone-hardware is developed so fast, you cant even play a year with that device (except on onlive, cuz its only streaming). so a year after you need to buy ouya II or what ever. a ps3 lasts for more then 4 years and thats where the ouya is more expensive
but ill give it a try and we'll see what the future will bring maybe a port to other devices of the ouya android rom? would be great for sure

Although 8gb of internal memory isn't nearly enough but I'm sure a external HDD is a very easy solution to that. And for the console part I think it is excellent because playing games like Nova 3 with your phone(virtual anaog sticks), doesn't quite give you the satisfaction of a possibility at playing a game like that with a controller and on a 1080p hd screen... So I believe gamers like me would totally enjoy this.

I think that their decision to make pre-ordering available the next day that the kickstarter campaign ends is not very fair for the backers. The only people who benefited from the kickstarter campaign were the Americans that didn't pay the shipping...
Today I can pre-order the ouya (which is safer than backing a project on kickstarter), spending exactly the same...

Not necessarily. Sure you're spending the same amount of money, but that's the point. It's supposed to be an accessible console. The perks of being a kickstarter backer are: having the opportunity to purchase a different color, limited edition console; reserving your username; having said username engraved on your console and controller(s); a founder emblem (probably more helpful for devs); free shipping for the US; and most importantly, the March launch date is guaranteed ONLY for backers. There's a chance that everyone else could get their consoles much later than us. So it's pretty fair. Backers got a decent amount of perks.

That, and the retail release is pushed back to June. Any word on when us backers get ours? I wanna know when I get my bronze Ouya.Please correct your post OP, it is based on JELLYBEAN
It is scheduled for March, will probably be delayed as most kickstarters are, and said to get to backers before retail, so before June is all I am assuming.
Lol sorry for that, this was pretty old and I thought the thread died so I just left it. I'll update as soon as possible now that I see people are still interested.
