My Pixel 2 should be with me in a couple of days, what's the camera app like? I'm coming from a LG G5 that had an advanced mode giving ISO, shutter speed and exposure settings, does it have that?

I must admit that I'm surprised you would purchase this phone without knowing this already, but it does not come with a native pro mode or manual controls. A third party app will be needed if you want that level of control. But the auto mode is the best you'll find.

Having been away from a Google phone since my Nexus 4, I longed for quick updates again plus I had read that it has one of if not the best camera. Although auto settings are great, when in good light I love to turn the shutter speed down for high speed pictures such as my kids on a swing or roundabout.

Do you have an app you'd recommend for manual settings, I see Camera zoom FX has them.

Here are some of my pictures. All taken with a P² & P² XL (had both for testing purpose).

Please note that the 4th picture (butterfly) was taken while walking by!!!

I have a lot more realy great shots, but I won't put pictures of my children online, sorry!

regards

Maybe it's just me, but there is something wrong with the upload quality for all of your pictures. They look super low resolution.

My Pixel 2 never cease to impress me. The rich & accurate dynamic range and punchy output that this camera delivers on every picture is a beast of its own true high end class.

Some new (and old) photos - both taken in (dim) daylight and in low light!

Enjoy! :)

If you're using the XDA app, the links won't work. Works fine in chrome (phone and PC)
Didn't know that till now. Now I've attached the pictures to my post (didn't work before)

Originals resolution pictures are available here:

Love how it can get pictures this, previous camera phones I would have had to choose all black foreground to get the sun or the sun being a huge glowing blur

Is it just me or doesn't the link from Google photos work in my post above?

I don't get impressed by technology much, but the Pixel 2's camera is truly impressive. I think it's better even than what reviews are saying. Every other phone I've owned I've been able to get good photos if I held it right, in the right light, with no movement, and the perfect combination of factors. With the Pixel 2, I find it nearly impossible to take a bad photo. Everything comes out good.

Let's share some of our favorite Pixel 2 shots.

(These obviously are down-scaled so the clarity isn't going to be the same as full-res)

    Pixel 2, Portrait mode, Snapseed.

Low light shot. (Pitch black night, middle of the woods. Only light is the headlights on the snowmobile). All settings auto, point and shoot. Nothing fancy. HDR set to auto.

Also, I'll toss this one out there for people who have been discussing temperatures... It was -10 F.

    I was happy.

Just returned from a trip to Japan, took the risk of the P2XL being my primary camera. Did bring my SLR only with a Telephoto lense and GoPro for some stabilized videos.. other than those on selective days.. it was all the Pixel.

It was really fantastic experience. I have always found previous phone cam experience lacking and this is the first time I was happy with the output not having a SLR.

Used the Portait mode heaps not just for people but for food and selective closeups. Most surprising was the quality of the front (selfie) camera. Don't much selfies period and was able to use it on occasions to get some great shots.
Posting some samples below.. not touched up at all and except for the first one that was rotated slightly and cropped. Really shows the hardware and software to maximize it.

The double click on power button(to start the camera even when locked) was so fast to get a shot off and almost never missed a quick snap (combined with the volume down as shutter button).
Portrait mode was mostly great.. but could use some work in selective adjustment. Being able to keep it at default would be good as well.
The hand turn/motion camera swap was nice and intuitive as well as quick but didn't always work depending on angle of the phone.

Some lovely photos dude! My sentiments too, really love this phone and the camera capabilities. It's only going to get better with the visual core and machine learning for portrait shots.
